9 Month bubba sleeps with mummy

Hi All,

My 9 month (Almost)old Bubba still sleeps with me and my DH. He is my first little man and I was real scared of SIDS when he was born so i let him sleep with me, but now he's getting older and I thinks he needs to be in his cot.:redface: I feel a little embarassed that he's still with me all the other mothers i know have their bubba's in a cot much earlier. I try to put him in their during day naps but he wakes up crying after 10-15 minutes.

:pray:How do i ease him into sleeping by himself in his cot???? As much as i love my little man i think he needs to be in his cot.

Firstly, there are a lot of kids are still cosleeping at that age so please dont feel embarrassed! Charlotte was with us until 6.5 months, and would have been if hubby couldve done it.
I couldnt put her in her cot during the day either - still cant until she is actually asleep, as she still feeds to sleep during the day. However, her cot at night I had to do so just did it. It took a long time until she could sleep through the night, but putting her into her cot was less stressful than I thought it would be. It really is a matter of just doing it. I know that it is not the way of this site, but it got to the point where we couldnt handle the cuddling to sleep. C would wake every 2 hours and I was in there trying to put her back don for ages, and nothing was progressing, so we tried a controlled crying technique. It is not what i wanted to do, but nothing else was working and as my husband worked away on the mines and was not getting enough rest when he was home due to her sleeping habits, i had no choice. She would feed to sleep and I would put her down, then if when she woke we would cuddle then sit with her until she fell asleep again. As long as she could see me she was fine. Charlotte still has a feed before bed, but now goes to sleep alone and has done since about 2 weeks after we tried this.

There are a number of other things, like putting the cot next to the bed with the side off, that you can try to ease both you and luca into the whole solo sleep thing. I am sure that the other girls will have more effective methods than mine, but as I said, we really had no other choice for a quick solution.
Charlotte still has issues with her day sleeps and I often cosleep with her during the day - still a good time for me to rest with her, and I still get my bubba cuddles!! so perhaps trying the night sleeps first will work for you too.

Anyway, good luck and please dont be embarrassed! There is nothing wrong about you and your little man both being comfortable and happy together.

awww don't feel embarressed!!!! co-sleeping is very common!!
i have just in the last couple of weeks gotten my nearly 12 week old into his cot :) i feed him wrap him and let him go to sleep next to me then ever so quietly put him in his cot...it has worked!!! he sleeps through and wakes around 6am :)
good luck but if you still want bub sleeping with you then go for it!!

We don't start co-sleeping until about a 7 months, I'm the opposite, am too scared to sleep with a newborn! (had a special cot attached to our bed tho this time, so she was right next to me anyway), and then they're in with us until about 15 mths, then they get a big bed and we start putting them down in there. DS still then brought himself into us during the night until well after 2yrs old but we always at least started him off in his bed.

Don't be embarressed by co-sleeping, it is a beautiful natural way for a family to sleep :)

I used to cosleep but I found Aiden slept better in his own bed. I think mummy cramped his style :lol: I have Aiden in my bed if hes sick or just if I want a cuddle :redface: Dont worry bout it Id prefer to but he likes his own big boy room.

My newborns often shared a bed with me (particularly after a 6am feed when I was too tired to put them back in the cradle). I've had all of them come into my bed as toddlers too (my 2 year old still jumps in my bed around midnight). They will grow out of it. You won't have a 15 year old in your bed like the child nurse told me. :)

I started putting them in the cot during the day for their day naps, and eventually they got used to being there at night.
