DD starting to hit me on the head :-(

OOooooooh my DD has started hitting me. When I say "no" to her (i.e. she wants the remote so I remove it from her reach and sight), she will stamp her foot and stare into my eyes and then hit me on the head! What is with that? I say "nooooo" to her and smacked her on the hand today, then the bottom lip of course came out :doh: and she cried. I have read that if I do what she does and tap her on the hand, it is not a good thing and it treats aggression with aggression!

She only does it sometimes, she is generally a good little girl and such a happy little thing. If she does go to touch something she is not allowed to and I say "no" to her, she will generally not touch it.

This is a normal behaviour for her age isn't it?

Need some tips on how to deal with it.

QB - yep i would say normal at this age.
DD went through it too and sometimes still does. She will hit herself on the head also and say ow! i think they are learning what hurt is too.

I wouldnt personally hit back as i agree with what you said. i have been using time out and that seems to work. Or take the item away from her, explain hitting it not good as it hurts people and then give it back to her. If she does it again.. then remove completely.

Also i think it becomes a bit of a game too if there is a big reaction so just try to stay calm and not yell or give a big wooha (although it can hurt like hell lol).. as she will want to do it again in the whole 'cause and effect' she is learning at this age.

oh thanks, i thought it was normal. she turns 1 tomorrow so i can't really remove her yet, i don't think she would understand. i just don't think i should look straight back at her and get cross. she seems to hesitate doing it again but will stamp her food at me. hmmm...

QB = when i do timeout (have been for a few months now and DD is only 18 months) = i sit her on a chair in the dining room away from the tv and toys where it is quiet and no distractions, tell her that hitting or what ever she is doing is naughty and she needs to listen to mummy when i say to stop. then i ask her to say sorry.. (she kisses me as sorry) then i let her back in the room.

She quickly learnt although she was only young too like your dd that she is removed fromthe situation. She is only there about 30 seconds so not long (now i can leave her there on the chair for a minute and she will stay without me but couldnt iniatially).

But yep until then, prevention is the best method i think. Dont let things in her reach that are hard or dangerous. And if she finds something and hits you with it then remove it from her and tell her why.

But hopefully will pass over the next few months :)
