Food ideas for 7 month old

Hello ladies,

I need help. I need food ideas for my 7 month old DD. I have been feeding her solids since she was 6 months old. Currently, I am feeding her steamed vegetables and rice cereal, which she loves. I feel as though she prefers rice cereal over the steamed vegetables. Last week I tried feeding her angel hair pasta with sauce but she vomitted it all out. She has her second bottom tooth growing, the other one is visible. I stopped giving her yoghurt because she is allergic to it. Athough she loves it, her face gives signs of allergy, so I've stopped.

I would love to know what other mothers give their DD/DS at 7 months and when they were 7 months.

My DS has multigrain rice cereal for breakfast. For lunch we have fruit, usually a piece of banana or mashed up apple (cooked) and banana or pieces of watermelon. For dinner, he has veggies, usually a combo of mashed up potato, sweet potato, pumpkin and chicken. He's also tried tuna and brown rice. Finger food wise, I give him steamed pieces of broccoli and/or carrot.

I give Cameron cereal for brekkie (currently on the heinz apple and mango one, as he doesn't seem to like the banana flavour or plain). For lunch we do an assortment of fruit - different types mixed together usually. For dinner I've been doing vegies and slowly now introducing meats. So far done chicken pureed with vegies and I did do a mince with vegies the week before but he didn't seem to like that - but he ate it (don't blame him though, tasted it myself and it was pretty bland). He particularly likes pumpkin, so this is usually in the mix. I got a recipe from a friend for a nice lamb hotpot, which I might do this week (basically a few vegies and some lamb cooked on the stove, then puree it). This friend had a cook book for baby food, so was thinking of looking at buying one as I'm not the best of cooks, I'd never thought to look for cook books before.

I'd also like to see what other people give their bubs.

I haven't tried the multigrain rice cereal. I might get some for her tomorrow. I will give her steamed veggies tomorrow without mashing and see how she does.

I wanted to introduce meat and chicken (minced) but how would make it pureed for DD?:wall: Blend it? Don't they just love pumpkin and sweet potatoe the most? Lol. A cook book is really handy at this stage huh?

Does she only ahve the two teeth?
Charlotte didnt cut a tooth until she was 9 months so she had pureed food until then, and she didnt even try meat until she was about 11 months - she hated it, and still isnt a big fan.
I used to steam vegies then puree them and put them into tiny icecube trays and freeze them. When they are frozen put the cubes into snap lock bags in the freezer so at dinner time you simply mix the cubes up - something different everyday with little effort. There is no problem with her eating just vegies and cereal.
I also started charlotte on actual oats, quick cooking ones for breakfast and found that I could make a double batch and mix them with her dinner to fill it out a bit. she loved it, still does!
Also perhaps you can try pureed fruit, the same as the vegies. Then she can have a 'sweet'.
Icecream is also good if she cant have yoghurt, just a little bit. The fats are good for them and they love it.
Charlotte used to mash sandwiches to death too. just butter and vegemite, but she didnt need teeth for those. She loves pasta too...she can eat it by herself which she loves and if you use bows or spirals it is easy for them to eat.

Yes, she has two teeth. You can see the first one perfectly and the second one is making its way. I gave her plum today with my help. She made a huge mess but was enjoying it. Whatever am eating, she looks at my food and follows with her eyes when I put it in my mouth, Lol. Tomorrow bread with butter it is. Is that okay though? As butter contains salt? I tried giving her pasta (angel hair kind) which is smaller than spirals and she vomitted.

What kind of oats? The same ones I have? The quick ones? With what? Water instead of full cream milk?

I stopped giving her yoghurt because I think she might be allergic to skim milk at the moment as it is part of the ingredients for the yoghurt.

Salt is fine, just dont add it to her foods.
I used the quick cooking oats with just boiling water a little breast milk or formula and some fruit puree for the flavour. She loves oats.
There could be many reasons why she vomitted, i would try her again on the pasta, try a different shape, that way she can control how much she eats, as the piece will fit in her hand. There is also no reason why she cant eat what you eat....oobviously she cant eat lots of garlic or chili and things, but there is no reason why she cant have roast potatoes, whole beans, broccoli florets....finger foods she can eat herself with her hands are all good, just cook them really well so they will mush when she gums them. It will give her confidence to try new thing too because she is in control.
The fats in the butter are actually very good for her. Babies need fats. she doesnt need to eat tablespoons of butter but the minimal amount you put on a piece of bread is good for her. You can also get unsalted butter if you prefer, but as I said, salt is also a vital mineral for the body.
I found that the only meat charlotte would eat (even now really) is sausages. If you cut them into sticks lengthways so she can hold onto them like batons they can mash the sausage meat quite easily and it is a good way to introduce meats- which if they havent had yet can be hard onthe tummy and may cause her to be sick.

Another trick I have is to add grated cheese to mash, and a poached egg when she gets a few months older and can have eggs - they love it! Sauces are also great to add moisture and flavour.

There is a thread somewhere on babyled solids/finger foods....it is really interesting and full of great ideas, and I swear it is the reason Charlotte has been feeding herself since 10 months old lol wont even let me feed her breakfast .


Oh, PS - you can add frut puree cube to your mashed vegies, like pear or apple, and it will give it a little extra sweetness and flavour and also sneaks in an extra fruit for the day :)

At 7 months bubs was eating lots of apple and pear. I would bake batches, then blend. I think I introduced watermelon and strawberries at 7 months too. Just put little pieces on his tray and he picked them up and ate them.

He was also having vege mixes of pumpkin, carrot, broccoli, zuchini, peas and he loved sweetcorn. I would just bake or microwave then blend. Each week I just didn't blend as much.

He also ate vegemite and avocado toast at 7 months. I cut it into little squares. He would stuff the whole finger of toast into his mouth and gag.

Little bits of cheese were introduced at 7 months. As were meats. I started with chicken, then meats. He loves sausages. With the chicken, I poached in boiling water for 10 minutes. Then shredded and blended at first. Eventually, I just broke into bigger and bigger pieces. Chicken is still a big favourite. With the saugages, I just cut them into little pieces. But my bubs always loved feeding himself and was pretty good with his pincer grip.

Girl, if you wanted to puree meats they do puree well in a blender or food processor. I've only tried chicken and did it that way. Now that I got a stick blender for xmas :) I just whizz it with that until it breaks up into smallish chunks. Another way of doing it is grating the meat.

Avocado is an awesome first food - soft, but can be given in chunks to hold, not too sweet, full of good stuff. You can spoon it straight from the skin, add it to mashes, spread it on toast/bread/biscuits, mix in tuna/finely diced meat. Yeah, I really am in love with avocado...shame they're so expensive! LOL

I have a couple of books I would recommend to anyone. One is called Breast Bottle Bowl. It has lists of what age you can give your baby different types of food. I also have a couple of Annabel Karmel recipe books for purees etc. They are great. I started giving my twins vegies on their own eg just pumpkin etc but now they have tried alot of things and haven't had any allergies I mix things together like in the book. Today they will be having rice cereal for brekkie and then I usually give a cube of fruit like pear. They also have a mix of swede, carrot and pea for today, and for fruit pear, apple and cinnamon.
