Frequent Flyer Accounts

This thread can be for anything related to FF accounts but my issue is:

:o I can't believe we have to pay $82.50 per child (we have 3) so that they can join the Qantas Frequent Flyer program!!!! DH and I have been members for years (over 10) and I can't recall having to pay anything! We have a holiday booked later this month... just domestic but involves a connection flight (meaning it will cost us nearly $2000 to get the 5 of us to where we are going). I thought it would make sense for us to register our children so that their points can accrue as well... but now that I know about this joining fee i'm wondering if it will be worth it! We will be flying more frequently in the future... it could be worth it... not sure.

can't you use your points to pay for it?

I had to pay for mine, it is a one-off charge.

It would be great if we could use our points that we already have to pay for it... but I bet they will slug us for cash. I know it's just a one-off... but it was a shock I guess.
