really concerned...please help.

hi ladies,
im really concerned about my 4 year old staffy.
he is epileptic and is on phenobarb 60mg 2x daily and for the last few days he is really not himself.
he is off his food but drinking alot more than usual...sneezy and generally wingy and wont settle. he has been out 8 times today and hes still wingey.
iv rang the emergency vet its 2.35am over here and they have said that the vet wont see him till in the morning...iam lay in the living room because he wont settle at all.
any ideas of what it could be???
i dont ususally worry but this is so out of character its scary...hes been abit more growly but we have been out today.
iv got a vet appointment for 9.20am.

I hope that your vet appoint goes well!
Animals are like us and they get sick - colds and tummy bugs and things and then they are sick, just like us, they are not themselves.
He is drinking water so that is the main thing - when ever my dogs are sick the vet will always say that ist ok not to eat but when they dont drink thats not good.
Just be with him and keep him comfy and see how he goes.
He may have just eaten somehitng he should not have or just have a bug.
Fingers crossed that he is better soon!

Hi Rach - It sounds a bit perplexing and I couldn't really say what it is. I wonder is it is something neurological? But it doesn't sound to me like a true emergency where he needs immediate attention and I would think it would be fine until his appointment. Does he seem to be in pain? Has he had any vomiting, diarrhoea, seizures? Anything else out of the ordinary? Is he walking strangely or holding his tummy rigid? Is there something unusual outside like a new cat in the area? Has he passed urine and faeces ok today? What is his gum colour like? It should be nice and pink unless he has darkly pigmented gums. What is his body temperature like? If you dont have a thermometer you can feel his ears. They can sometimes give you an indication of if he has a fever.
When was his phenobarb dosage last reviewed?

he has been crying for 2 hours now...can i give him anything incase he is in pain??
hes been weeing lots and had 1 poo and tmi alert but a bit runny.
he hasnet had a seizure in a month and that was his first in a while.
he had his meds reviewed the 23rd dec.
