How long for?
Hi Girls,
My baby is 10 weeks old and sleeps in a bassinet in our room. I was just wondering how long your babies were in their bassinets for before you moved them into their cot? Also did they have any problems going into their cot? My baby sleeps through the night and I am scared she'll have difficulty adjusting to the cot in her own room once she outgrows the bassinet.
Thanks

Hi there, I think we moved mason around the 4 months mark. Once they can roll, its a good idea to get them out of the basinette.
His transition to cot was perfect. Like you, I was worried but he has no idea. I rolled up some blankets to place beside him for the first few nights so he still felt snug and secure,
Good Luck :)

yeah Jack was around the 4 mth mark, he was in his own room though and he was happy in cot no dramas at all, maybe move bassinet into her room a few days before so she is used to the room etc

Hi there
My DD was in a bassinette (well cradle if I'm going to be really accurate) until she was about six months old and then we moved her into a cot but still in our room. She took to that no problems. She's now 17 months old and still in our room (mainly because we need to 'fix' her room and there's been ongoing issues between builders/engineers as to what we need to do to actually 'fix' it). BUT, the reason I'm posting is that despite the fact that she's slept in our room for so long, whenever we've been away for weekends she's really had no problems going to sleep in a portacot in a separate room to us, so I'd say if she's a good sleeper generally then I think she will handle a move fine.
I'd say when you're ready, give it a go and just see what happens. All babies are different, so it's hard to really know for sure.

Aiden was about 3months when I transferred him. To help make the transistion easier, i let him have some day naps in his cot, plus, i hung a thin blanket (actually it was one of his wraps) on the open side of his cot (solid end cot, one end against the wall) so that he wasnt overwhelmed by the sudden big view, or even a sense of spaciousness.
Like Danni, i did have something on each side of him, didnt use rolled up blankets, i just had one of those anti roll things that you buy from the shops, mine was from Big W i think, does a similar thing to using the towels.

I am thinking of putting our bubs straight into the cot. I do have one of those wedge things that goes on each side of the baby to stop them rolling. I jsut want her to get used to the cot as quickly as possible. If worst comes to worst then we will use the bassinette.

Ali
we put our twins straight into their cots and we are going to put this one in a cot straight away as well
you just tuck them right down the bottom of the cot

DS was 2 weeks when he had outgrown the bassinette - so went into cot - and was fine.
DD was around 3 months and the transition was perfect. Didn't even notice a difference and she still sleeps through the night ok.

My Ds was about 8 weeks old when we moved the bassinet into the babies room during the day to get used to the room. At around 10 weeks I started putting him in his cot during the day and found he had no trouble adjusting ( I thought he would) So we just moved him straight into the cot from then.....he looked so small in there tho!!!
But you get a bit of your life back having your room to yourself and a bit more "US TIME" if you know what I mean!!! If you have a good baby monitor then you will have peace of mind!!!

DS2 was about 4months old. The transition was fine. No hassles. Still slept (and still is sleeping) through the night just as he was in the bassinette. His cot is still in our room though.
Good luck with your DD. I hope everything goes fine with her and you aswell.
It's so scary when they move into their own room. I'm a sook though.

i have a secure sleeper that goes onto my bed for this one. my first 2 were in their cots by about 4 weeks but i got a bit clingy with the rest lol

If the basinette separates from it's base, you could place the basket part into the cat for a while first.

DS was in the bassinet in my room till about 4 months... He grew too big for it, so I had to move him to the cot in his room, it was hard emotionally, but a pretty easy physical move. I put my DS in the cot for day sleeps at first, to get him used to it, but still had the nights with us. When he was used to it, I did the transition. Worked well for me.
Good luck with the transition for your DD.
