We have no room for a cot. :redface: Have another DD who is 11 and who has bunk beds (in preparation but bought early due to SIL with issues having to stay for a while).
Has anyone ever bypassed the cot phase? I know of 2 women that did but don't get to see them anymore to ask advice.

yep but our DD disliked the cot. she went from bassinette to our bed until 9.5months. worked well for us. then she went in her own toddler bed and loves it. thought the transition would have been hard but it was fine. HTH :D
Thanks heaps for replying queenbee. Did you do anything special to keep her in position in the big bed? All I can think of so far are those positioning pads and to fold the bottom sheet up halfway...
ps - dd is only 6 mths on monday
I put my DS on a mattress on the floor.
Now that he is craling he has a tendency to go playing when he wakes in the middle of the night, but mostly he is pretty good with it.
It is not ideal, but I guess you gotta do what you gotta do.
Will she be sleeping with you? Or on her own in a single bed? DD was with us and didn't have anything special at all, just slept in between us. Worked for us and our family anyway.
queenbee - she would be on her own in the bottom single bed of a bunk bed set but with big sis on the top bunk...

ah ok. DD went in a toddler bed at 9.5months old but that is quite low to the ground. it has a side rail itself built into the bed (but you can buy side rails separately from baby shops). at the end of her bed i have rolled up a towel and popped it underneath the sheet so she doesn't roll out. i am sure there will be something from the baby shop you can buy that has sides she can sleep in? i know there are certain ones you can buy that go between mum and dad in the bed? would offer the same support in her own bed i would think. i have a movement monitor too in our DD's bed for piece of mind. but you may not be able to put one in with your other little one on the top bunk, not sure.
QB - how on earth does she stay in bed. I'd be worried about DS climbing and falling headfirst.
does not climb out at all. just stays in there. when she wakes up, she will sit up and play, never gets out. it is so low to the ground though so not worried at all. she's a good little girl!
