ok, so heaps of threads have been started asking "which sling/carrier?", but I thought I`d ask it a bit different.
I know lots of the slings around are all probably quite good and most comes down to finding the right match to the wearer, but is there a sling or carrier that you have purchased that you really regret, because of poor design, not good value for money or whatever reason?
I wouldn't recommend a ring sling. Its probably that I'm just a spack and got it wrong, but I never managed to get it comfortable for either me or DD1. I never even tried it with DD2.
i wouldn't recommend any over 'one' shoulder carriers. They just made my back too sore. Carriers that go over both shoulders and around your waist disperse the weight evenly causing less back issues. ;)
I would not recommend any of the ones like baby bjorn, snuggly. As baby hangs from their bottom.
I love mai tai and ergo. two shoulders. or puch/ring sling if you can get the hang of them.
i would definately not reccommend the HUG-A-BUB, maybe i'm just spaz and couldn't get the hang of it, but it was such a pain in the ar$3 and the babies hated it... and it was soooo expensive!
Boobaloo i have to disagree! I love my HAB, it was a saviour for me when DD was little. She loved being in there and it meant i had two hands free. It does take a couple of goes to get the hang of but i love mine. I must admit i use the Ergo much more often now as it has the back carry and DD is bigger. But i'll be using the HAB for the next one.
I guess that is the prob with recommendations different things suit different people. ;)
I don't know any partiuclar brand, but steer away from the ones that have thin straps, as they'll dig and pull in the one area. If you're going to go a carrier make sure it spreads the weight across the back and not just in the neck/shoulders.
I love my ring sling, it goes over my shoulder and down onto my arm and across the width of my back. The only problem I had was when I first got it and didn't put it down over my shoulder so I got an ouchy neck afterwards! I learnt quickly LOL! We also have an Infantino carrier which is fantastic, padded shoulders and spreads the weight really well, Shel carries Jazz in it at least an hour at a time and has no problems.
I used (tried) a BabyRock comfy carry or something I think it was called. anyway, Charlotte was about 2 months old, couldnt even stand it for 5 minutes. The mesh gave no support and she ended up looking like a rolled up millipede! lol It was crap and so uncomfortable for me, the length and positions of the ring and the padding and the mesh was waaay off.
For serious!? I saw a woman with a babyrock carrier the other day and her newie looked soooo cosy and content, I was thinking of getting one next time I fall preg!:
DD and I both hated the baby bjorn. She was never comfortable in it because it didn't offer enough head support, I couldn't get anything done because of the positioning of it (it made DD stick out too far so I couldn't cook or wash dishes or anything), it was bulky and stiff and ugh. It wasn't expensive compared to some others and it offered fairly good back support and was easy to put on, in its defence. I only used it a few times though.
