postnatal hypertension
I had my baby 12 days ago and on day 5 I developed high blood pressure. I have never had a problem with my blood pressure until now. I googled it and there seems to be something like postnatal hypertension but not much info on it. Has anyone else experienced this and what was the outcome? I have been to the doc who has done some blood and urine tests and if the pressure doesn't go down by Tuesday they will start me on tablets. I am worried because I am breast feeding. Any advise please.

Hey mate, congratulations on your new bubba!
Yep I got this with Darcy on day 7. Turned out it was pre ecclampsia :dunno: I didn't even know you could get it post natally. My kidney and liver then failed so it turned into full on HELLP syndrome. I was started on antihypertensives straight away and stayed on them for about 12 months dues to uncontrolled BP. I breastfed long after I stopped the meds so as long as you tell them they will be able to prescribe appropriate ones.
I already have a degree of kidney failure with this one, so I'm just waiting for the BP to follow suit.

Not quite the same, but i had residual high BP after the birth of my DD from pre eclampsia. Fortunately it settled down by my 6 weeks check up and i didn't need any meds. You might find it settles on its own, or, as in Kim's case you may need meds, but as she said you should be able to BF. ;)
