IVF -
Hi There, Im not to sure if i am in the right thread or not.
My husband and myself will be undergoing ivf - due to a genetic disorder that we dont want to pass on to our children.
We want to get started straight away, but i have been in touch will our phi (AHM) and we will not be covered intil 21 May.
I asked them if i could at least get started on the IVF, and was told that with IVF you wont be covered until that date (therefore cannot start ivf before that date - if you wish to be covered), whereas with a natural pregnancy - just as long as you dont have the baby before that date - you will be covered.
So my question is - has anyone been thru this? Does PHI really save you that much?
Thanks

Hi Jess,
I am currently undergoing PGD also because of a genetic disorder so we're in the same boat. I don't think that PHI will make a big difference. At what stage of IVF are you? Have you seen a FS?
Depending on your condition they may have to map the DNA for you and your partner first becfore you can start. We had to do that and it took about 10 week and costs $1500 which is fully out-of-pocket as not covered by Medicare or PHI. So perhaps you could just start with this and will be covered once IVF really starts.
There is a thread about costs of IVF which may be helpful, you'll find it here

Good luck
