spotting at 16 weeks and 5 days.....anyone else??

Hi all,Im going to be 17 weeks tomorrow and last night after doing number 2 in toilet i discovered very light red blood on the tissue and brownish discharge after that ,i freaked out and so worried,as i went to toilet this morning ,still a little light brown discharge..im not sure what caused the spotting but i have still been feeling my bub kicks and movements last night and alot this morning, that relieves me abit...but just wondering if anyone else experience samething and end up fine after all????

and also i never have missed taking Elevit before but cus of what happened i kept thinking about and forgot to take Elevit last night, i dont know if i should take one in the morning to make it up from last night and one before bed or not ??!!!

Please give me some advice ladies.....

Im sure everything is ok! If you can still feel baby kicking thats a good sign. If you are concerned about it maybe give obgyn if you have one a call or go to local doctor just for peace of mind.

Im taking Elevit as well, you are ony supposed to take one tablet a day so just wait until you would take the one for today, don't take any extra

Baby is kicking so I'm sure everything is fine, some spotting/bleeding in pregnancy is actually pretty common. But I would call your Dr/Midwife just to let them know anyway and they will probably put your mind at ease.

I had some spotting a few weeks ago, I think I was 18 weeks at the time.

Of course I freaked out, but after a couple of days with no more spotting I gradually relaxed and everything is still going fine.

I think these things just happen sometimes.

One thing that can happen is that if you've been DTD, that can break blood vessels on the outside of your cervix and cause a bit of spotting, and that's normal. So that could be the reason and nothing to worry about.

I had spotting at pretty much the exact same stage of pregnancy as you. 16 weeks and 5 days... I freaked out as we'd gone through so much to get pregnant and stay pregnant and I wasn't feeling a lot of movement at that point in time.

I went in to see my OB (luckily I'd taken the day off work before this happened - I was simply exhausted) and she did a scan and checked my cervix and all was well. We never discovered a cause for the bleed and I didn't have another episode and Samuel will be 4 weeks old on Friday.

Please call your OB and get checked out if you are worried. They'd rather you come in for nothing than stay at home and stress and find out later that something was wrong.

Opening your bowels can often trigger a little bleed. Don't take an extra dose of vitamins, missing one day won't make much difference. (Other than folate there isn't much evidence that vitamins do much anyway.)

I had the same type of spotting at pretty much the same time.. On two or three occasions. I was extra freaked out as I had quite severe bleeding right throughout my second pregnancy. I called the midwives and they said that it is all within normal boundaries. If the bleeding gets heavier or is bright red then I would get myself to the hosp quick sticks.. otherwise just keep an eye on it. However, after saying that you know your body and how you are feeling. If it would put you ease by going to get it checked then definitely do so.. no need to stress your self out unneccessarily. Keep us posted...

Ivy - I actually spent 4 hrs in the ER of my local hosp last night for the same reason! After doing #2s I had some light pink spotting and passed a little bright red clot (sorry if TMI), after tests and scans, it was found that bubs' was happily rolling around in there!

The ob told me that the blood vessels around the cervix are very fragile during pregnancy and the muscular contractions (involved in doing #2s) can sometimes cause these blood vessels to rupture slightly hence the ocassional bleeding or spotting. I will be 18 weeks on Friday, and yesterday's 'episode' frightened the life outta me. In saying that, if at any point you are concerned, there is no such thing as being too paranoid, call your midwife or ob and ask the question it's always better to be safe than sorry :bellyrubs:

Thank you all so much for your replies,i feel so much relaxing after reading thru them,i have appoinment with my ob on thursday next week and a 19 weeks ultrasound after that,so i think ill wait unless it happens again but i hope everything is going be fine from now on,as i havent seen any spotting after last night or may be just very very light brown discharge(looks like it mixed with white discharge) coming out when wiping..i still feel bub kicking heaps all day :) even right now when im writing this :) it makes me believe that everything is good in there with him/her.....

ps: im also just wondering if anyone start letting bub listen to music( i meant put the head phone on belly when ur playing music) from this stage (17 weeks)??and what type of music is good for bub?

I think playing music to bubs sounds like a great idea. Just make sure it is something you enjoy listening too as well, as bubs may want it on regularly to settle.

Brown blood is old blood..so it's usually fine. I would only worry about bright red blood the did not stop. And bubs is kicking...so excellent! But I am sure a trip to see your dr will reassure you.

My best friend spotted at 4mths also. She now has a healthy 3 year old. :)
