Which high chair?

Hi,

I'm in the market for a high chair, I want something that is easy to use and clean, but safe with a five point harness.

What can you recommend and why do you like it?

I have a big Bruin chair on wheels, with a tray that you can remove & wash, a 5 point harness, reclining seat etc. But, to be honest, I find the full high-chair annoying. I have packed it away because it takes up too much space & just gets in the way (and DS likes to push it around the house :rolleyes:).

I prefer the Fisher Price portable one (The "Healthy Care Booster Seat"). It has a 3-point harness (which is fine - so long as your bub can sit up - and you don't start solids until they can sit up anyway - it's a sign of readiness for solids). The tray then snaps on over their legs for added safety. The chair just clips onto one of your existing dining chairs. It's all smooth plastic (no padding) - so it's really easy to clean. It has a removable tray that goes in the dishwasher for easy clean-up. Best of all, it takes up very little space & can quickly be folded up when you want to go out.

But, if you want a full high-chair, here are some things to look for:
* height of the tray (mine is too high so DS looks uncomfortable when he's eating & drops food down onto his tummy)
* material of the padding/seat-cover - you want something that is easy to clean (eg. PVC), not something plush (babies make an enormous mess once they start self-feeding)
* removable straps - for cleaning (believe it or not, some highchairs actually don't have straps that you can remove to clean!)
* adjustable height - our high chair is called a "high/low" chair & you can move the seat up & down - which is great if you want to feed bub while you are sitting on the couch vs. at the table

Yeah, I really have to agree with getting one that fits on a normal chair. I have a Safety 1st one and have never regretted not getting a wheelie one. We have just started to use it without the tray for DD to sit at the table with us and she loves that. And I'm some sort of safety maniac and haven't ever felt anxious about not having the 5 pt harness.
And like Ezz said, so great for taking on holiday/to friend's house's etc.

I have the IKEA antilop; very simple, very easy to clean, cheap and comfy for bubs. Does not come with a 5 point harness, but DS can't get out even though he is a wriggler. It is very easy to take apart (legs come off) and to take places.

I have the IKEA high chair too. Doesn't have a 5 point harness, but haven't found this to be a problem. DS can't climb out of it. I am always with him while he's in it anyway. Soooo easy to clean and only $35 for the chair and tray. You can also get an inflatable cushion ($5) to put around behind them which stops them wriggling lots but I found I don't really use it.

i have the fisher price space saver high chair starts from 4months with recliner u can adjust the tray 2 diff levels 2. 5 point harness and just straps 2 ur dinning room chair... removable covers easy wash easy adjustable ect protable 2 it comes apart so easy so i u have to go 2 a friends 4 dinner u can take it with u ... we have had ours 4 2.5 years now dd doesnt use it but ds does we brought ours in the neutral beige colour so it didnt stik out like a sore thumb in our house n can be used for both sexes very handy!

I love my IKEA chair too - had the normal padded type one with first bubs and was such a pain to keep clean and get in all the cracks etc!! Doesn't recline so can really only be used once bubs is holding head up steadily, but I just used to feed in a beanbag before that.

Love that I can just pop the legs off to take it when we go to someones house for a meal

Steelcraft mealtime I love it has 5 point harness, reclines and is easy to clean.

we also have a portable one that fits on chair to keep in car in case we are any where and need it.

Kiddicare snoppy high chair from toys r us. Cheap, easy to use, light and small, 5 point harness and easy to clean padded wipeable seat, adjustable table and foot thingy. lol That cost about $120.
When she was LITTLE though I had a hook on table high chair ,cost me $60 and was FANTASTIC.

space saver chair has been great here, I can even put it on the floor and feed her that way. I don't use the harnes though as she doesnt try to get out yet.

We have the Jane activa combo high chair.

It has a 5 point harness, the chair is removable so you can take just the chair and the tray with you.

It is a fully reclining chair, and it all turns into a table and chair set when baby gets older, so its not just a high chair its a highchair that turns into a low-chair and then into a play table.

it has a removable padded seat cover which the straps are attached to and you just throw it in the wash and it doesn't take long to dry.

it doesn't have wheels, but the shape and the material its made out of makes it extremely easy to move around. It is very sturdy (not like the ones with very thin metal poles for legs).

I can't praise it enough actually! i definately wouldn't use anything else other than this chair, and its value for money too, because once your baby is too old for the high chair part, you can just use it for a table and chair set, simlpy remove the chair from the base, turn the base the other way and presto you have a table and chair.

I also have one of those ones that attach to a normal dining chair, a safety first one i think. (its at my mums house for when ds goes there) and imo i honestly feel very uncomfortable when ds sits in it as it only has a 3 point harness and is very slippery cause it doesn't have a cover and he barely fits in it and he is only 15 months old.
