Early U/S
Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone has had an early u/s around the 5-6 week mark?
I thought I was 6 1/2 weeks but at my u/s today there was no hb and the sonographer said I was approx 5 1/2 weeks which doesn't work out according to my calculations.
Has anyone had one so early and seen a hb around the 5 1/2 week mark. I have a feeling I may m/c but the lady said not to worry about it just yet and that everything looked ok in terms of sack placement and uterus lining but I am not convinced.
Has anyone had one and been earlier then they expected and not seen a hb then later discovered everything was ok?
Of course I am trying to hope for the best but I expect the worst IYKWIM.
Cheers All

 nae you may have ovulated later than you thought or bubs may have taken its time to implant, are you having another scan in a few weeks?
please dont worry im sure all is ok!

natural conception is damn hard to predict Nae
i had a scan at what i believed to be over six weeks, measured 5w4d - and we JUST had a heartbeat. heart doesn't start beating til around 5.5 weeks.
it isn't uncommon to not see a HB that early - with a natural pregnancy, ovulation, conception, implantation - nothing is KNOWN for sure like it is with an IVF pregnancy - even my iui cycle, i thought i knew when i had o'd - but i was out by almost five days if my scans are anything to go by!!
don't forget you were sick over the time you conceived, so it's likely O may have been a day or two later than you think, and early scans can be out by up to 4 days - so it's more than possible everything is still fine! hold onto hope hunny...
maybe drop into a few of the LT threads - there are lots of girls who don't show a HB early on but have perfect pg's...
thinking of you hun

I agree, it's not an exact science and often you don't see a heartbeat until after 6 weeks.
I had an u/sound at *about* 6 weeks, 5w4d or something the scan measured, and my ob was *pretty* sure he could see a heartbeat but it wasn't definite and was a bit slow. 2 weeks later we saw a good strong heartbeat.
Please try not to worry, everything might be fine, you're just a little earlier than you thought.
You will be in my thoughts and prayers, I hope this little one will be just fine.

I had an early ultrasound at about 5 and a half weeks and they dated me at about 5 weeks exactly. No HB could be seen or heard at that time so they scanned me again 2 weeks later and confirmed the HB.

AJP - I have an early Ob appointment on the 29th but aside from that I haven't arranged anything. I am not sure whether the Path nurse will call regarding my results or what will happen I assume I won't know anything until I see my Ob.
I guess anything is possible with late implanting etc, but I just can't seem to shake this darn feeling - could be that its coz things didn't go so well though.
Time will tell, there is nothing I can do in the meantime but play the waiting game and pray that all my symptoms develop into full blown m/s.
I hope everything sticks and develops I really do but you know that little brain voice gets in there and self talks all the bad stuff - I hate that little brain voice so much *shakes fist and said like Homer J Simpson*
Heres hoping x x x

noooooooooooooooooo dont worry------ this one is a sticky okay?? no HB for me until 8 weeks with no.1 nothing but a peanut at 5 weeks
don't stress hun!!
-
I agree Nae, it could just be too early to see the hb.
Was it an internal u/s? They are more accurate too.
 the not having a definate answer is the worst!
-
Thanks BG, Laranna and Willow - its soo good to hear that others had a similar exp.
BG I actually asked the Dr about whether or not the fact that I had been so sick would have had an affect and he said no but you're right when its natural there i sno real way to tell whats going on.
I have a very lucky charm that was sent to me from a special friend OS (a fertility type charm) and she swears by it so I am holding on to some hope that everything is fine.
13 days till my Ob appoint so I will try not to worry too much until I have spoken to him and know for sure.
LSK - OMG 8 weeks sheesh were you just freaking out or what?!!
-
I had some early bleeding so we had a scan at 5.5w and saw nothing. A follow up scan a week later had a definite heart beat so it isn't unusual just to see a sac at 5.5w
-
Oh hun, I know how hard it is at this stage of the 12WW.
Blackduckies (Pam) didn't see a HB on the earlier scans until about week 8 I think and she now has lovely little Poppy. I think CSAB was the same with her little girl. Hang in there Nae.

Darling woman I understand your feelings well
Just because I am a nut - I know that an embryo begins to have a flutter of a heartbeat at 21 days past conception. So that is approx 5 weeks - but that is not detectable on u/s until around 6weeks +2. You also need to remember that the sonographer is measuring a Being smaller than a grain of rice. Very tricky. Put that cursor too far one way and you have shaved a week off that little Beings life! :D
By 7 weeks "most" viable pregnancy's will show a heartbeat - however remember we are dealing with human error/machines that may be very old etc etc.
Sending you lots of love and support as you play this waiting game - you are supported by us all my love...

I had an internal u/s at 5wks 4 days with Sam and all we could see was the yolk sac, no hb at that stage but Ob said all was normal and looked perfect and he was right cause that pregnancy progressed and is now a 4 week old baby boy!!!
Good luck!!!

I had to have an internal at 6+1 to see the heartbeat and it was slowish - 120bpm. The tech said it looked like it had only just started beating in the last 24 hrs
Thinking of you

I had a a scan at 6 weeks to confirm dates (there was a possibility we could have been 10 weeks) and we didn't even get a clear picture of the fetal pole, just the sac. The sonographer wanted to do an internal scan to confirm there was a bub there but I wasn't up for that... Anyway, I wouldn't worry about there not being a heart beat, cos we couldn't even see our baby at 6wks! By the time we had a scan at out OB at 8wks we could see heaps, including a heart beat.
Good Luck!

Its very common not to see a heartbeat until 7 weeks so please don't stress. I've seen loads of ladies on BB think they are a certain term only to find out they are way out on dates and then go on to have healthy pregnancies. Best of luck with the next scan.
-
i know i was EXACTLY 6w3d for my first scan. but all the sonographer could find was an empty sac measuring 5w2d. her report said "no sign of a viable pregnancy"... and she said " im sorry, it doesnt look too promising at this stage" on one hand I was devasted, but on the other hand a part of me just knew she was wrong.
but HA HA HA sonographer lady... we showed her a thing or two!!!!
hang in there chicky! its early days. think positive.
BTW. my next scan gave me an edd EXACTLY on the day i knew it should have been.

nae- YES- i was dying until my next scan!!!
but i had a healthy boy................... :)
