Must be more attentive mother

I gave DS a plum this afternoon, and then went to check my e-mails. When I came back it was ALL gone - including the seed! He was sitting exactly where I'd left him, didn't seem to have moved, so the only conclusion I can come to is he swollowed it! I didn't hear anything (I was about a metre & a half away) and he seems perfectly fine. I rang 13 HEALTH and they said see a doctor within 12 hours, and it was 6pm by that time so we took him to the doc, who said he may have a sit of a strain in the next day or so passing it and just to watch him.

I feel like such a bad mum - he's only had whole fruit in the last week and I've always been near and his given me the seed, this time I just wasn't being attentive.

DOn't beat yourself up too badly! I bet even if you were wacthing him eat EVERY swallow (which isn't always the case I'm guessing in most families) then he could have done it quickly. And if it wasn't theplum seed it could have been anything else. I guess these situations make you more aware for next time.

DD was eating some watermelon - I went to get something from other room and was back like 20 seconds later. She'd eaten the white and some of the GREEN by the time I got back grrr!!! Will have to be more careful too!

Oh no! You poor thing, I bet you feel terrible. Don't stress- it could easily happen to the best mum. Who would think they would eat the plum pit??

I hope your little man doesn't suffer too much in passing it through. I guess just give him lots of fluids?

Awww honey, you are a terrific mother!! And you are attentive - I've seen you with him - please don't beat yourself up!!!!

At least the plum seeds are small - could of had a harder time with a mango ;)

How were you to know he'd eat the plum pip! Hopefully he will be fine.

I'm only attentive while people are watching ;) at home I check on him if he's quiet too long.

Yes, a mango seed would be more concerning.....as would a ****roach.

A plum seed in nothing lol my 2yo eats anything she can get her hands on. She especially loves my erasers from when I get a chance to do Sudoku and also the leads out of the kids pencils and chalk and .......... the list goes on. As long as it is non toxic I don't worry as much as I used to. I can't be with her 24/7 because of bubby but know she can't really hurt herself.

Don't beat yourself up! I went to the markets one morning (months ago, before ds was one)and came home and spread my purchases (fruit and veg) over the floor so I could see what I had and to show dh. I turned around to put some in the fridge and ds was part way thru a peach, a nectarine and something else! I didn't even know he could peirce the flesh yet! He was only little!

I know thats not as out there as a pip, but he's come close to eating a few!
