Need some help
Hi I am only new to this site so I don't know the appreviations but I really need some advice. I have been trying to get pregnant for 2 years and for about the last 5 months I have been getting a really light period about a week before I get my period. It's either light pink or brownish and only really there when I go to the bathroom (sorry for the details). I have been to my GP who took blood tests to check my hormones which all came back. I have to go for an ultra sound next week but I can't wait any longer to find out what is going on. Has anyone ever experienced this before?

I know what you mean- I have experienced the same for a number of years now. I am really sorry but can't remember exactly what my fertility specialist told me what caused it, but I know with me, it is due to hormone issues. I last saw her when I was trying to conceive my 13 month old daughter so the memory has gone! But it was a hormone thing. If I were you I would get a referral to a fert specialist from your GP. GPs are not always aware of fert issues and hormanal imbalances. I messed around for years trying to get answers and shifted from pillar to post before becoming quite demanding in my requests!

H2B - before I was pregnant I used to get that kind of spotting in the week before my period. It was all related to my endometriosis though. You might want to ask your GP to a referral to a gynae if the u/s doesn't show anything.
PS. Welcome to BB! :)

Thanks heaps for your advice. Did either of you have any other symptoms? Katierabbit did it take you long to get pregnant?

Hi H2B,
Since going off the pill about 3 years ago, I have had spotting about a week post ovulation that lasted a few days - like a 'mini period' that would then stop for a few days before AF came in full force. After TTC for 12 months I was refered to an OB who found nothing, and then to a fertility specialist due to DH sperm issues (we ended up having other issues that was stopping us from getting pg). Despite nothing really concrete regarding the spotting (eg from my hormone blood tests), my FS put me on progesterone pessaries after each transfer (post ovulation) - this stopped the spotting. She thought that my spotting was related to low progesterone/issues post ovulation.
If you have been trying to have a baby for 2 years I would strongly advise getting a referal from your GP to a fertility specialist to see if you can be helped to speed up the process of getting a little one in your arms. Although it can be a daunting process, it can be a step in the right direction.
Good luck.

With the specialist we charted my cycle and she could see where I needed a bit of hormone help which I had. I fell pregnant within about 10 months, having had my cycle 'corrected' as in that time I only had about 5 menstrual cycles. Even after conception I continued to see the specialist for progesterone injections each week until about 35 weeks of pregnancy. It wasn't IVF, just 'assisted ovulation/conception' is what I call it! Given that AF (periods) now is still days of brownish spotting I will be seeing her again in a couple of months for baby no. 2

H2B - my other symptoms included extremely painful periods, heavy flow, irregular (all even while being on the pill too), sometimes nausea as well as mood swings and bloating.

Hi H2B,
My period is very similar and has been that way for years (started when I went off the pill also). I bleed very lightly for about 7 days and then the proper one kicks in for another 7 days (very annoying). When my GP ran some tests at the beginning it was hormonal and showed that I wasn't ovulating every month. I also had endometriosis. We did have fertility issues and had a number of IVF cycles. I agree with farmgirl77 that after 2 years of TTC you should get a referral to a fertility clinic. However after all the IVF I ended up falling pregnant naturally with my DS even with all my hormonal issues. I hope this is of some help.

Thank you all for responding. I will speak to my GP about getting a referral to a fertility specialist.

Thank you all so much for taking the time to respond. I will speak to my GP about getting a referral to a fertility specialist. I have now had spotting after my period finished so it's time to do something about it and your advice has helped me work out what the best thing to do is, so thanks again
