blinds for BIG windows

Ive been doing some research and need to bounce some ideas of people other then my husband who jsut says do what you want....:wall:

ive been looking at getting new blinds for out windows that face the street (lounge and boys room) their 2.8m wide and about 1.5 drop. In both rooms I have verticals that I HATE with a passion cause they are continuously breaking. I have lace and block out curtains in the lounge room but only lace in the boys.

I blinds need to be matching so...........

I was looking into panel blinds but OMG $270 for the track alone then $40 a panel to which I would need 7....and that was for one window :o PASS

Now im wondering if Holland blinds are available that big and im worried if they are...would they bow int he middle after a while

Im also tossing up on Roman blinds...ah to many things in my little brain atm!!!

so please do my head in more and give me your thoguhts

Hun I would go traditional curtains on those. They tend to be a bit thicker for light blockage too.

Oh Id love to BUT WIlhelms bed is right next to the window and the whole room in long but only 2.9m wide so curtains make the room look tiny.

Go for a pale colour, it will diminish the effect of cramping IYKWIM. The darker the colour the smalller the room looks. Traditional curtains are also easier to wash ;) can u post a poc in the morning so we can see the amount of room there is between Wilhelm's bed and the windows?

Ali - we had curtains in the boys room and it just doesnt work babe......there is like 5 cms gap betweent he bed and the window wall...not enough when you pull back the curtain...defently need blinds

we have roman blinds through lounge/living areas they r great at blocking light and heat.

in bedrrom we have double rollar blinds (translucent so you get light in but privacy as in day time no one can see in then 2nd is blackout blind)

Maz, we've got double blockout Romans in our bedroom which faces the street and they are fantastic for night shift, so i'm sure you're little guys would benefit. They weren't as exxie as I thought they would be, but are really worth it.

we're thinking these are the way to go. Do they block out alot of light? does light get in of the 'sides' of the blind?

no not as much as i thought it may, still fairly darkish in mornings eg can see in room but turning a light on or opening blind needed to see properly. IYKWIM

How are all your blinds/curtains going anyway? I've been thinking a blockout roller blind for the boys and then get a $10 curtain wire with clips from IKEA and use some colourful material at the sides to make it look pretty. And then if they use the material to blow their nose or wipe banana into, I could just unclip it and chuck it in the wash. :D

We're going to have to get 2 more when we do Vy's new window in the same colour. Thy block out so much. In the boys room we have netting over the window for through the day and some flags up the top....their room is nice and dark in the mornings. Check out my facebook page in the photo albuml the house that jed rebuilt...you'll see them in there (I think)

Ohhh that's cool Maz - so do the flags sort of hide the top of the blind, or is the blind behind the sheers?

Hahaha. Well it looks fantastic and entirely steal-worthy. I was thinking of doing the flags/bunting for the boys room (been meaning to do it here actually but never got round to it :redface:) but I never thought to do it over the window.
