He's hitting himself in the face...!?!?!

Over the last few days, DS keeps hitting himself in the face repeatedly (with right hand only). He then looks rather unhappy cos he keeps getting biffed! Is there any reason he might be doing this? Or would it be a "I can't control my arms that well" kinda thing?

Otherwise he's not too different to usual, so I'm assuming nothing major is bothering him (except the heat down here maybe!!!)... but I just don't like seeing it. It just seems as though something is annoying him... or itching or hurting maybe?? My DH thought he was trying to indicate he wants milk, but he's still doing it even when feeding sometimes.

Anyone else had this?

ETA: he is an "itchy" type with eczema and is usually in mittens... so could be frustrated scratching... :dunno:

Belfie Julian does the same thing, usually when he's tired it gets worse. I think he is trying to suck on his fingers but because he is tired his motor skills are affected.

If your worried maybe take him to the Drs though.

Hehe... I remember when DS was a baby, he would grab handfuls of his hair and PULLLLLLL...... he'd scream cos it hurt of course.... lol....

He soon learnt not to do that. I'd say that he's just getting things worked out, and doesn't have very good co-ordination at the moment (nor should he!)

Oooh, Natty used to do this too and it was so upsetting.
I was thinking it could be a tired sign as well? Or maybe it is play - in which case perhaps some more distraction could work? (ie like a gym, or more tummy time with a mirror or floor toy/s?)

Thanks for the reassurance. He usually does it during the earlier part of his feed (first half mebbe)... so I'm thinking it's not tired... probably just overexcited & unco (as they are at this age) - but nice to hear it from you ladies :grouphug:

Snacks - that's such a good suggestion I'll try the moogoo! I've read about it for cradle cap but didn't think of it for the eczema :doh:. Thanks :)

My DS used to do this as well. At first it worried me because it just didn't look right iykwim? He bashed himself in the head with some toys and we went through a stage of only giving him soft toys but now he has much more control. Now he will do it if he has a toy thet makes noise in his hands but he can stop himself before he hits his head :D
