moving baby into own bedroom

Hi all,

Not sure if this is the right sub forum for this question but wanted some opinions.

When she arrives, Dp and I want baby sleeping in our bedroom (in her bassinet) to ease new parent paranoia ("is she still breathing?!") and to make nighttime feeds easier.

I was just wondering from those with experience, did you find it hard to move them from your bedroom to their own room e.g. Did bubs cry being in their own room, and if you did move them, at what age? After first few weeks or months??

Sorry im totally clueless, I just think ill feel more at ease if she's in my bedroom at night, but worried it'll be hard to relocate her later.

We had DS in our room from the start, first in his bassinet, then in his cot. At about 8 months (only a couple of weeks ago!) we moved him and his cot into his own room. It was better than I expected. He didn't cry/wake up anymore than usual. I think it helped that he is still in his same cot, just in different room. If he was going to a different bed altogether it might have been a different story.

SIDS actually recommend to have your baby sleep in your room too.

I think do whatever you feel comfortable doing. When you feel it's time to move DS into his own room, then we are here to offer advice and support again :)

When we moved the girls to their own rooms we moved the bassinet into their room for a week or so, and put it inside the cot, so it was a smooter transition. Rather than everything changing all at once IYKWIM.

I wasn't that fussed either way, having her in our room or her own room, our house is tiny and fully tiled so any sound travels as if its one big room! Lol

Im just abit worried also about having her in our room as dp doesn't come to bed until about 2 or 3am every morning , hopefully baby doesn't sleep too lightly and get woken up by his stumbles in the dark!

My kids all have slept in my room till 18-2yrs and transitioned without a problem. Bub sleeps in our room and most nights is not disturbed by us going to bed.

DD slept with us for 9.5months. Never was interested in bassinette or cot. Always screamed when she went in a cot anyway. So it was easier for us all to co-sleep, which worked great. We moved DD into her own room when she was 9.5months, into a toddler bed, as she still hated cot. The transition was great, she loved it and has had all sleeps in that since then. She is now 13 months old. I was surprised the transition was so easy.

My son was in a bassinette in our room til I think around 2 months or so. To make the transition easier (more for me than him I think) I moved it out to the lounge room for about a week so he wasn't far away. I then put him in the cot in his room & he started sleeping through the night from 3 months. Not traumatic at all.

I reckon don't stress about it, do what works at the time and then change it when it does'nt work anymore. It's the approach we have taken this time and we have a very happy bubs. They eventually want to leave your room themselves :rolleyes: I fyou find that you want to make the move before they are ready i would say start with daytime sleeps and then work up to night sleeps.

My son is almost 8 weeks old. We are planning on moving him into his own room this weekend. I don't think its paranoia that he's still breathing, but I can completely understand where you're coming from with that. But with us, its just that every movement and noise is waking us up, and making us wonder if its time to wake up to feed, almost preparing ourselves to get up, but then not having to, etc... which is just making us have an even more interupted sleep.
He is in a rocking cradle next to our bed at the min. We will take it off its hinges and place it in his cot for the first few days, maybe week depending on how it goes, and then just take that away leaving him in his cot.
I'm looking forward to having our bedroom back as just our bedroom.
Its nice that some people have their children in with them for longer, if that works for them, but what works for some, doesn't work for others.
Take everyones advice, but then just do what you feel is right for you.

DS was in a bassinet in our room until 10 weeks...then we did the first transition during the day and after one or two days we felt comfortable enough to leave him in his own room(in the bassinette) overnight.
After about a week we did the day transition to the cot and after the first day left him in there overrnight!!

He had no problems with this and it was a huge relief to have OUR bedroom back to ourselves IFYKWM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My DD was in our bedroom until she was almost 2.5years old ... her 1st 9mths she was in her bassinette next to my side of the bed ... then her cot in the corner of our room until 2years of age but she ended up in our bed mostly every night & there after until she was nearly 2.5.

:D I loved her next to me in our bed every night & especially when she awoke in the morning kissing me & all the cuddles ... i loved that her face was the 1st thing i saw when i awoke each morning ... it just got hard as she got bigger and sleeping for me meant not as much room in the bed.

Only thing i would have changed is that i would have started to put her in her bed in her own room a few months earlier (maybe at 2) :rolleyes:

Having said that i just so still love her in my bed at times ;)
