males in daycare or baby sitting??

was after u ladies thoughts,

hubbie is a teacher aid and has a equivalency to childcare cert3 and is also studding that. he also has a current first aid and blue card. We were thinking in the future family daycare doing it and or just advertising babysitting but then i have to ask who would trust a male?

I know daycare centers are crying out for male staff but even with that being said there is not much job vacancies locally in caboolture area. so yeah whats ur thoughts about males i mean u are parents whom better to ask than u all.

i would look at the person, not their gender

as long as he was equally qualified to the next person, offeres the same services, the i don't care. my DH is someone i'd have no drama leaving a kidlet with, so i guess that helps me to be open minded

My FDC lady often has her DH home or her son who is 20,I love that Riley gets to interact with men not just women as he would in a CC centre. If you were doing it together (FDC) I think it would be brilliant.

At the last Daycare DD went to there was a man working there and it was great to see the kids especially the boys interacting differently with him than they did the women staff. Although I think they had to to move the nappy changing area to somewhere out in the open but I think that was to cover him against accusations more than being suspect of him IYKWIM?

Quite sad really but he was a great teacher and I was really happy when DD was put in his class.

I asked about this a while ago, as DH was (and still maybe) looking at doing a childcare qualification. At the time DS had never had a male carer at his daycare.
Since then, he has had one in his room (was there for about 2 months) and he was one of the best careers hes had, DS loved him and so did we.
I wouldnt have an issue at all.

I have actually known people that have requested their child not be put under a male daycarer when there was one at a center near here...
But I don't feel that way, I think we need more of them - guys can be GREAT with kids!! But really, I think qualifications, certifications, and experience is what would make my decision.

I wouldnt have a problem with a male at all. In fact I would probably welcome it! Charlotte has so much female interaction, but when we get back to perth she will have next to no male interaction anymore, and she thrives on it. It would be a plus to me if a centre or FDC was willing to hire a male staffer.

Nope no problem here and I asked DH and he said why would he have an issue!!! Kids love having people around who will interact and play with them no matter what gender they are!

I am a huge fan of males in childcare. There is only one at our child care centre, and I'm really glad that each of the boys have had him as their carer. He is brilliant with the kids and I think male role models outside of the home are far too few and far between. I am sure there will be some parents put off by it, but I think far more would embrace it. At our centre the director has only ever had one parent express concern, before her child had started there, but she soon was ok about it once she met him and saw him with the kids.

In terms of FDC, I work with a male whose wife does FDC and he is back up when she is sick. The families seem to love the arrangement.

I think it's a great idea. I work in the industry and am lucky enough to work with a male who the children absolutely love. I must admit though that he doesn't change nappies but that is something the director decided on to protect him more then anything as it is her husband. I also know a guy who does FDC and he was really popular. Not sure about Qld but in NSW FDC is accredited now which I think helps parents to see that not just anyone can run a CCC or FDC and that a lot goes in to running these services.

I wouldn't have an issue with it. I think that if you have to leave your child in care, for whatever reason, they should have the opportunity to relate to both male and female carers.

Like women, men are only in the child minding business if they have a passion for it. Some people are just cut out for it.

But it is just so unfortunate that we live in a society where we only hear the 'bad' of men being in childcare through the media. I totally understand how you might be doubting that people would receive it well, but I think you will be suprised at the support for it.. I don't think society is that narrow minded, just the media!
