Well DP is much in love with his R34 skyline and would do just about anything to avoid selling it, so far we've only found one car seat that comes close to fitting (turn-a-tot) and while it's considerably better than the others we've tried still isnt a great fit, so my question is:
Does anyone know of any good car seats pref reversable that will fit so that I wont be squashed against the windscreen?
have you tried explaining to him how they are dangerous if you have a crash and you can't open the back door to get the children out because there is no back door lol
My XP had one and he brought a commodore for this reason. It's a scary thought!
Yeah I'm thinking maybe new car! We had to get another car (car seat would not fit in 200sx, similar to your DH's car + not safe at all). However, DP still insists on keeping his stupid ginormous subbie and putting it in the new car even though he knows that it's not going to fit with the pram as well... :rolleyes:

I am actually very interested in this thread because I just bought a 2001 Subaru WRX and am now dredding the thought of having a car seat in it!
dp had a R32, our car seat fitted perfect, however dd is 2, so its forward facing.
have you tried a capsule? not sure how they compare in size.. just a thought!
i had a hyundai excel when dd was born, our safe n sound car seat fit in the back perfectly.. we had it in the middle.

I have a 3 door car also (Celica), and am wondering what will fit in mine once I have a bub.
I was thinking a capsule (but have also read they take up room) and then get a front facing seat. I saw a girl the other day with a teeny chirade and she had a safe n sound unity capsule in it, and didn't seem to have a problem with that!
My DP is a CAR freak... i put my foot down to a 2 door i just couldnt imagine my kids trapped unable to get ot... I have a turn a tot and it JUST fits in my VZ Comm when its in baby rear facing/// It used to hit the front seat..... Tell him to trade his Nissan in and get a Holden... Woot... LOL

Haha it's not just men and their babies! I myself have an R34 GTR Skyline and an R32 GTS-t, my Husband has a Supra - We're selling the lot! They're just not practical for parenting! Hubby's getting a new Navara and I'm getting a new Turbo Audi Quattro - Much safer, more practical, less of a money pit for me as I won't want to mod it and still has lots of go to be an enjoyable drive - Not to mention a step up in class! Have you thought about maybe getting an R34 4 door or just buying another cheap little family car and keeping the R34 Coupe as well? Sorry, prob not the answer you were looking for... I'm not sure of any car seat that will fit, not to mention pram that will fit in the boot and all the other things that come with baby...

We ended up getting a turn-a-tot, it just fits.
I think the back seat of a Celica is smaller than the 34... at least thats what DP says. We can fit a Large adult in the back of ours.
DP has agreed that we'll try it out with the baby in it and if its too hard he'll sell the car. We cant afford to buy and keep (rego, insurance, maintainence, etc) another car unfortunately. We were looking for another car a little while back, then we found the turn-a-tot and discovered it "fits" so that was the end of that *sigh* I agree a 4 door R34 would be much more practical but he wants the one he's got. :wall:
Despite the fact that it doesn't fit up our driveway (he ripped the front bar off on it this morning:doh:) and it's not at all practical.
We looked at the Audi Quatro as well, I really like it, but again it's just not a Skyline. So it apparently wont do.
If you go to baby stores they'll let you try the seat in your car, even if you decide to get it from kmart or something, try it at one of the baby stores first to check it fits.
As for fitting stuff in the boot, he's thankfully getting rid of his 2 x 6 inch subs and (unfortunately) replacing them with one 12 inch, hopefully the pram we want to get (McLaren XT Turbo) will fit along with everything else. Otherwise he's gonna have to at least lose the sub.
Having not had to ever used a car seat or pram, etc he just doesn't understand. I think after we have the baby he'll realise it's just not possible. lol
ETA the turn-a-tot also rated quite well in a recent article I read ( NSW Road Traffic Authority article) It was rated 3rd for rear facing and 7th for forward facing.

Oh that is interesting.... I wondered how and what would fit in the back of mine because the seats dip down IYKWIM. DP said that if we can't fit anything in it then he will use my car for work and I would use his (I would be home most the time anyhow) but I would rather my car to his big 4wd! I can see where your DP is coming from. I went out looking for new cars awhile back and found nothing that I liked that was nice comfort wise (except a VW bora I think it was) so I decided to keep my car. I have a big boot in mine, (same with sub and amp! lol) shame the boot isn't a bit smaller and the back seats a bit bigger! I like the look of mazda 6 classic or sports I think they are, maybe I could talk DP into that!
I'm surprised it fitted in... Is it in the middle to allow more room???
Glad u got one to fit... Ur DP sounds like most when it comes to his car... Ouch for the front var... (not the 1st time i've seen it happen... ) Almost have done it myself... :redface:

Lol I'd be very happy to get a new car, although a Holden is definately off the menu as DP is a ford man (I don't really have a preference). I wanted a Mazda 3 SP23, but DP test drove one and didn't like it because of the wierd dash and he didn't like the body roll and the height.
Unfortunately I don't get much say as I dont drive, but if we were to get a non-turbo car then I could at least learn.
The car seat will go on the passenger side, I can't put my seat right back, but it's far enough to not bash my head on anything so it'll do.
He only broke the front left screw holes and it could have been fixed but rather than taking a minute to go and find a spanner and remove the other nuts that were still attached, he just ripped it off, so now its totally massacred and we've got to get a whole new one. Which we definately cannot afford right now :wall::wall:
It's not the sitting forward that will kill you it's the bending down and pulling the seat out at a funny angle.
We had a BMW 3 series and getting the capsule or a baby out of that was murder on my back. Even DH found it hard after a while and he's a very strong person. It's not just that you have to lift from down low but you also have to twist into odd angles to get them out without banging them or the capsule.
You can't imagine how happy I was to get rid of that car and get something more suitable. I got a honda civic and in my eyes it was the best car ever because it had 4 doors pmsl.
You'll be doing yourself a favour if you buy a 4 door before the baby arrives but if you don't never mind, your DH will probably be begging for something more practical within the year - especially since they only get bigger and harder to move lol.
ETA - I still love my little honda. DH keeps trying to upgrade me to turbo this and and 6 cylinder that and I just pretend I haven't heard him (although I am kind of tempted by a 4wd so I don't have to fit stupid chains in the snow).
I figure if I have trouble getting it out DP can do it, he's the one that insists on keeping his car. lol
lol @ the little civic. I really wish that I could convince him to get a different car but he just refuses to acknowledge that it's not going to work out. Even though myself and pretty well everyone else we've spoken to about it has told him it's not going to work he's desperate to keep it. I've just resigned myself to the fact that until he's had first hand experience trying to get the baby out he's not going to face it. Sometimes people just have to learn the hard way.
ETA turbo's and bigger engines use more fuel anyway, better to stay with the civic if your happy with it IMO.
Just a quick update:
We had our turn-a-tot fitted yesterday (I know, pretty early, but I wanted to make sure it fits properly), it fits!!! It's a little rocky because of the shape of the seat, but the mechanic said this was ok and we could just put a towel or something under it to stabilise it.
We do have one problem though, it wont turn :doh: Because of the contour of the seat, it sits too close to the side of the car and while it will turn if i really force it(gently of course), it isn't going to be a possibility with a baby in it. I'm still confident we got the right seat however as it is still the only one small enough to fit with me in the front seat as well. We can still get to it if we climb in the back, it's just a bit of a hassle.
If (by if I mean when) we do get a new more practical car I think the turning feature will be very useful.
Now that I know it fits do you think we should take it back out until it's closer to the EDD? Just in case the car is in a accident or am I just beng paranoid? DP's not a bad driver but I'm not so sure about some others on the road :lol:
