OPK's don't work

Hi everyone,

I just read a very interesting fact in with the 1st response 7 day pregnancy planning kit - you get 7 days worth of OP's and 1 pregnancy test ..

Anyway I always get a BFN when i use an OP kit .. so i read the brochure today after doing my last test .. here's what it says !

Limitations of the TEST

some prescription drugs such as menotropins for injection (eg Pergonal) may affted the result you see with the 1st response ovulation predictor test. if you are undergoing therapy with Clomiphene citrate (eg Clomid or Serophine) please consult your physician about how this may affect your test result.

It also says this :

Certain medical conditions may adversely affect the reliability of this test of predicting ovulation. These include pregnancy, postpartum, post-abortion, POLYCYSTIC OVARIAN SYNDROME, ovarian cysts, onset of menopause etc etc etc .......

So there you have it .. OP kit's are virtually useless for people with PCOS and also people who are on fertility treatments such as Clomid.

I have to disagree I'm sorry as my gyno explained it to me as I got +++on opk's and I have been on clomid 3 times. The reason you have to consult your gp/gyno before using them is because if you use them to soon after you have taken your last clomid tablet then you get what I got 2lines on the opk's.You have to start using opk's at least 3 days after your last tablet.I also have pcos and most people with pcos don't ovulate so of course opk's don't work. Once you are ovulating though they SHOULD work.I think theres another post in this forum where some of the ladies claim that opk's don't work for them and they are from mixed backgrounds where some of them don't have pcos or were on clomid.

To say that OPK's don't work is a huge generalisation and actually, inaccurate. For most people they are an effective and reliable method.
I also agree with Kirsty's comments above.

i believe they work for some people and not with others

i have been using them for 6 months and have never gotten a true positive..

some times there are 2 lines but never as dark as each other

i think the box just says those warnings as precautions to save their butts incase someone tried to sue them.

but i do agree they work for some and not for others.

you could always try switching brands and then if still nothing consult your doctor. after all, they are the specialists

I have found that if I get 2 definate lines, even if the test line is not quite as dark as the control line, that this means I am about to ovulate.

The other things I have found for those who have difficulty getting a positive OPK is that;
1. It can depend on the quality of the OPK you use. I never got a + with the ebay bulk type (cheap ones) but I did with the lullaby brand, and,
2. You can easliy miss the surge if you only test once a day if you happen to be a person whose surge is only very short lived. For example, if you test everyday at 5pm and the surge occurs earlier in the day (ie 11am) you may only get a faint 2nd line by 5pm when you test. I have had to use HEAPS of tests in order to pinpoint a true positive. I have used 3 tests already today, all showing a different "strength" on the test line. Costs a fortune but I find it's the only way I can get a positive result.

I have tried the Fortel urine ovulation predictors and I did not once get a positive. Although I got ferning on my fertility microscope (Fertile Focus) and all the usual signs of ovulation. I have heard the the urine test strips do not work for everyone. And it is also possible to miss the LH surge as it can be very short lived.

i finally got a positive opk yesterday!! first one in 12 months.

the answer for me was i wasnt testing late enough in my cycle! i only ever tested up till day 28 and i ovulate on day 21.

always buy from the ferility naturopath no one else. the other ones are dodgy and more expensive

Hi I'm New To Belly Belly.com And Just Wanted To Say That The Opk Didn't Work For Me I Tested For 4 Weeks And Got -negetive All The Time .I DIDN'T GET A PERIOD SO I DID A HPT AND Was Pregant The Whole Time. So For Me I Don't Really Trust Them. AND I WAS TAKING 50MG OF CLOMID. NOW I'M TAKING 150MG OF CLOMID AND ALL NEGETIVE OPK LETS SEE WHAT HAPPENS I HOPE I GET PREGANT

OPK's don't work for me, even when ultrasounds were showing I was about to O! I have PCOS but I never knew that was a reason!
