pancreatitis
can any one tell me any thing about it what treatment you had etc symptoms etc
i am being refered to a sugical review but i can not even cget in to see my gp till monday after noon i am in so much pain it is nearly unbearable DH wants to take me to hospital i am trying really hard not to be a sook ..
-
Shazz I have not had it myself but my best friend had it quite a lot over a period of several years. It is considered to be one of the most painful conditions you can suffer from... leaves childbirth in the dust apparently. Let DH take you to hospital. I am not sure about the nature of your problem but my friend couldn't eat or drink anything when suffering an attack because that made it worse. He would fast and go to hospital where they put him on morphine. Seriously you are not being a sook this is one of the most painful conditions you can have.
-
Shazz hon, if you are in the middle of an attack now - GO TO THE HOSPITAL.
DH's dad has had 4 bouts of it - you don't muck around with it - it is serious stuff.
GO TO THE HOSPITAL.. RIGHT NOW.
-
I agree with Arimeh... go to the hospital hun.
My Nan had such a severe attack of pancreatitis that she ended up a Type 1 diabetic. It damaged her pancreas so bad and did damage to her liver also.
I hope you're feeling much better real soon

thanks guys eating and drinking is hopeless i have the most ridiculous dr's first one told me it was reflux put me on drugs for that went back the next day in servere pain told told to wait it out went to a diffent surgey dr ordered bloods urine and CT reading the report it definately says i have a acute pancreatitis with a calculus in the central bile duct appropriate action would be to refer to a surgical review ii what it says looks like i'm off to hospital thanks again everyone

Shazz. hope you miss this cos you have already gone to hospy!!!! but they will most prob put you on a drip and clear fluids only for a few days and pain killers.
the pain is like reflux.. but more.. and it wont go away on its own.

Assuming that pancreatitis is pretty similar in people to when dogs and cats get it (I work with animals not people, lol), it's when your pancreas is inflamed and the digestive enzymes it makes start activating while still in your pancreas, essentially trying to digest the pancreas itself. I can only imagine how painful that would be. When we treat animals with pancreatitis we withhold all food and oral liquids and put them on a drip, usually for days, and sometimes even longer. The pancreas basically needs a total break from making digestive enzymes for it to be able to recover.
I would definitely head to the hospital because I would imagine that treatment would be pretty similar and that you should be on a drip (to maintain hydration and electrolyte levels) and that you shouldn't even be attempting to eat or drink anything. Plus a nice addition of pain meds to the drip would be a nice addition I'm sure!
I hope you are feeling better soon!!!

Oh mate, that's horrible, please please please tell me you went and got some pain relief.....
-
Yes, they usually make you nil by mouth for 5 days and put you on IV fluids. A common surgical proceudre (if you've not already had it) is a lap choli (gall bladder out) or ERCP (basically drain your bile duct and sometimes put a stent in which just keeps it a bit more open and free flowing to prevent issues). I can tell you more about these procedures if you like.
Hopefully you got some help at the hossy and some good pain relief. Hope you feel better soon.

well i went to the GP first he read the scan results his exact words were " well there is no medication that is going to fix this i need you to go up to the hospital asap you'll see the surgeon and depending on what emergency's are in front of you you'll be in surgery tonight ' so i took the letter he wrote and headed up to the hospital the took me in to the ED did a heart trace BP ETC looked at the scans i brought with me didn't agree with results WTF ok so they started the tests first chest xray then ultra sound then hooked me to a drip gave me a pink lady for REFLUX !!!!!!! then sent me home with a letter for the GP saying they didn't aggree with the scan results they told me to take panadol every 4 hours seeing as i can't eat panadiene forte just makes me throw up and also a NO fat No dairy diet and one dr did say that she thinks maybe i had a a gall stone that has already passed through ?? so they don't know or don't really care .. the pain hasn't gotten any worse expect when walking but it is bareable at the moment so that s the story thanks girls

Did they do blood/urine tests? because if it is pancreatitis it is very obvious due to (i think) increased creatinine levels. is that right mother goose?
-
there would be abnormal blood results. Usually LFT's are way out. I'd get another opinion esp if you're in that much pain. It is possible you passed a stone but they need to know where it went. An MRI is best for seeing this. If the pain doesn't settly, go right back to ED. See if your GP can refer you to a surgeon if you have private cover. Or get a referral to the gastroenterology unit at your public hospital for assessment.

P.S. Sometimes a pink lady can actually help believe it or not. I chewed reni's when I had mine. It had mixed results. Buscopan worked best though. That with tramadol.
-
they did take blood but she didn't didn't say anything about it whether it showed anything or not obviously not !!! i'm assuming ...who knows ....i feel like i have been hit by a mack truck today had a shower an attempt at throwing up .... all good ... i am Not going back to hospital where they are just going to say the same that there is nothing they can find ..

different docs will be on hon. But get your GP to request the path reults from what they did and compare to the ones they already have. It will show what has been happening and if any changes have happened.
Is there another hospital you can go to?
Considering how you're feeling - the nausea - see if you can get a script for maxalon or stemetil and have some. Also try buscopan which will ease your discomfort. It will target and spasms if there is a stone causing havoc. And if you have any tramadol - that will also help (although may make your pretty drowsy). If you don't have any, pop into your local Dr and see if you can get a script.
-
buscopan are excellent. im on them anyway for my bowel adhesions...tramadol are good to and maxalon are good to...iv got kidney stones and they are bad enough and im on morphine constantly and that didnt help with the pain of them.
i hope they get to the botttom of this.
keep us informed huni.

OMG Shazz, the hospital sounds very frustrating, what a shame there isn't another one you can go to where they will listen to your GP who is probably more experienced than the 25 yr old registrar you probably saw in hospital!!!
