Home made kids ring sling!! How I did it!!
I have just been fiddling in my sewing room and come up with a ring sling for DD1 to use for her dolly. I suppose it would work for an adult too, but I don't trust my sewing machine that much
You will need some heavy duty fabric. I used Calico because it is cheap and strong. The absolute minimum size rings you may be able to get away with using are 25mm. You will need bigger than this if you need to make a pocket with excess length. When I do this again I will get some nice decorative curtain rings and cut off the part that the curtain attaches to.
Step 1
Measure the entire lenght that the sling needs to be, So from one shoulder down to the opposite hip and back up to that shoulder. Add the length of the child's torso for growth. You may also need some extra incase your rings are too small to be sewn straight into the sling.
Step 2
Lay the dolly on the fabric and and add enough on either side for dolly to be fully covered. For me this was half the width of the fabric from the shop.
Step 3
Cut it all out and hem it. If you have an overlocker you only need to fold the hem once, if not fold it twice to reduce the likelyhood of having loose threads for your children to pull.
Step 4
Sew one end together. This will be the end that the rings will be attached to.
Step 5
If you have big enough rings, sew the end that is sewn together around the rings, If not you will need to make a smaller loop with some offcuts to attach your rings to. after attaching your rings to this loop sew the loop to the middle of the seam on the end of your sling
Step 6
Thread the other end through the rings and place on the child to check the fit. If you have too much, sew the end up on itself to create a pocket that can easily be unpicked when your child grows.
