i am about to buy a new washing machine and am looking at a 6.5kg one, but am worried that i'm not going big enough....
at the moment we have a 4.5kg one which i find tiny... there's just three of us, but looking at adding to this number down the track.
so what size is your washing machine? do you think i should go for a bigger one,
say 8kg?
We've only had one washer, our current one. Its an LG 7kg front loader. No problems so far. I probably don't put 7kg in each load, it would be a big stuff. Once wet I find that more fit in. Its got heaps of water and energy stars and that is really good. I'd say about 6kg is a good size for a small family. It all depends on how often you want to wash. If you are washing more often than you want to, then get a bigger size. If you are happy to be washing as often as you do, then just go up a kilo if you need to replace your current machine.
Ours is an 8kg, it's amazing. I'll never go back to a smaller one, that's for sure!! My mum has a tiny little 5kg front-loader and it was an absolute pain in the neck, when we were living there, DD was a newborn and we were doing four, five and sometimes six loads of laundry a day!! But with my big hulk of machine, I can get away with doing maybe two or three loads a week (yes, we go through a LOT of clothes).
Thankfully we're not on water restrictions so we can use it as often as we need to, but I'm not sure if that would be a factor in buying a new washing machine. I just find it a lot easier on me (because I'm super-lazy) to wait until DD has no clothes left, then wash them all at once on a day we don't have to go anywhere, rather than wasting unnecessary hours doing smaller, more frequent loads of washing.
8kg here too!!!!!!!! i love it!!!! washes blankets and all without a fuss.

Decided that if we were going to get one then we should get a big one.
Sometimes i wish it was bigger when i am trying to put the last few things in knowing full well that i shouldnt.
I love my machine, love my fridge too - both big and beautiful !

We are a family of 3 with a 8 kg washing machine, Samsung. You should buy a big one. I am happy with our big washing machine, anything can go in, for example, blankets.
We have a 7kg front loader by ummm bosche i think?
There's three of us here and one on the way, if my washing basket it full i can usually get it all done in half a day! well thats if im not being lazy. i'd suggest 6.5 and up, but anything is going to seem a tonne bigger than what u have atm!!
We're a family of 5 about to become 6 and we have a 8.5kg LG top load washer.
It seriously is fantastic. I love the fact that I can wash all our sheets in 1 load, then do the doona covers in another load. I do 2-3 loads per day.
Go as big as you can afford to go - I went from a 4.5kg machine (and I totally get you on how tiny they are LOL) and doing washing for the 6 of us, to a 9kg top load machine and it's BLISS!!! It actually uses LESS water than my old one because of the way it washes clothes (by taking water out and pumping it back in again over the clothes it doesn't need a full bowl)
We have front loader, washer dryer combo...lg....its 9kg washer and i think 5kg dryer so I have to dry in 2 seperate loads which doesn't bother me cause I never use it but I wouldn't go back to anything smaller.....I can fit our king size doona in there with room still in there. Its awesome!!
I have a 9kg Samsung washing machine and have never had any probs with it.
mine is a 5.5 front loader. There is 1 adult and 3 kids I wash for. Oh and Ash is in cloth nappies. I haven't even thought twice about it, it's been perfectly big enough for us :)
