Keeping baby/toddler clothes...

At what point do you decide that you are not going to keep storing away your toddler and baby clothes?

I am just in the process in going through all my stored clothes in preparation for the next baby and I had forgotten how many I actually had. :doh: DS is still in a size 2-3 so I am still storing his clothes but I am also still keeping DD's clothes and she is now in a size 6! I think I am now bordering on being silly with hers as really if I had another girl next chances are fashions would change heaps by the time she wore them but I cant bear to throw them out. For some reason I am happy to donate DH's and my clothes (which I do around twice a year) but I can't bear to part with the kids. :rolleyes:

Is anyone else like this? And at what point size wise do you go enoughs enough and either throw them away or donate them?

I kept a few of DD1's things - now nearly 8, and at that stage had NO plans for any more!! And now they are still lovely and dd2 will be wearing them shortly.

and they arent out of fashion at all. in fact, my mum saved some of my aby clothes which are now soooo in as they are "vintage", i even have some kntted things that were my mums as a baby, one that was a hand me down to her, its about 65 years old and just BEAUTIFUL.

im so glad i kept all of dd's clothes. i mean, i sold a few bits and pieces on ebay, but i have the majority.

i think i will keep everything of dd's, so that dd2 can use. then once she's grown out of it, ill decide if i really want to keep it. there are a few little outfits & shoes i couldnt bear to part with.. others will be easy to give away.

as for shoes... ill do the same once dd2 is finished!

im about to do a huge re sort and only keep the really good stuff the rest i am going to sell as i found we had to much stuff to begin with and if we do have another one we will get clothes adn that as gifts so will once again have way to much..
there are some things like dresses and that which DD only wore once and i am hoping the next bubba will be a girl if not then i will sell them and only keep 1 or 2 things as keep sakes that she can pass on.

we now just chuck DS's stuff out and by chuck i mean donate, as we dont see teh point in keeping size 8 and 10 clothes as we will just buy new then. most of DS's clothes were gifts anyway and mainly sports stuff like roosters shirts and that so cant gaurentee the enxt child wil be into that.

hubby likes to throw everything and if i dont watch it gets tossed lol so i sort it then hide it in the roof lol

well I have tubs, you know those 60ltr ones with rollers and lids? I have one tub per clothes size up to a 4 lol
Its ok cos I know Ashton will use them, they are all good stuff and great brands.
The things that were well worn went to my nephew who is in a 3 now so a size below the boys.

I kept loads of stuff from my eldest, obviously for the reason that if I had another boy ,then they would get used again, but I had two girls and didn't get a boy till my eldest was nearly 7, so when I pulled all the boy stuff out, most of it had perished because it had been kept so long (cuffs and collars and elastic waistbands etc). All the quality stuff I brought was OK, but everything else wasn't useable so I had to toss it. In hindsight I should have gotten rid of it so someone else could have had use of it, but you live and learn I suppose. Now I don't keep anything - if it isn't going to be worn in the next season or so, I give it to charity. Naturally there is stuff that I've kept that has sentimental value. Its up to you though, but you also have to consider that your next baby might be the opposite gender and out of season.

I reckon i could clothe an entire kindergarten - full of girls....;) with all my girls clothes ive kept....i get very sentimental about clothes, and some i just cannot part with. Ive got sz 0000 right thru to sz 6......for me though im finding when DD#1 outgrows her clothes, then in a year or two, DD#2 will be able to wear them - and so far its worked. I dont have to buy DD#3 any clothes for this coming winter.....(so she says now.....;)).....
Im kinda looking forward to the day this baby is born, and i can finally sort thru my baby clothes......besides a few sentimental items, they will all be going into a big blue bin....(salvos...).....either that or we build another room to store them LOL !!!!!

The space bags are great and I have 1 for every size for DD's clothes - if this bub is a boy then I will start to get rid of them.

My mum kept some of my baby clothes and DD came home in the cardigan that I came home in - this bub will be doing the same! You would be surprised how still in fashion most things are. Even if they are not it really doesn't matter that much.

If you are really running short of space just keep the good stuff and get rid of the things that you don't really like or are a bit old and ratty.

I have a bunch of clothes from a niece and family friend that are about 6 years out of date. A lot of it is still fine, thankfully many expensive brands and yes some of it is so out of fashion. Some of the really freak looking stuff I have passed on or I just keep for around the house. DD1 is getting quite particular with clothes, so some items she just refuses to wear, but others (which I don't like) she loves. I would hang onto clothes that are in good condition, but get rid of ones with stains or quite ratty as they are more likey to deteriorate.

I don't really bother with the latest fashions, but before Jaycen was born I got given a whole heap of clothes of different sizes, including a whole heap of 4 x 0's that he only fitted into for one day. He's only 7 weeks old now, but I recently went through all his clothes to make room for new bigger ones now that he's getting into 2 x 0's, and donated all the 4 x 0's and most of the 3 x 0's to the bush fire victims. I only kept my favourites and a weeks worth of full body and legless jumpsuits (7 of each) for our next baby. An old plastic doona zip-bag has been the perfect thing to store them in until we need them again.
