help! tips for travelling with twin one year olds to malaysia

Just wondered if anyone has any tips for me. I'm travelling to malaysia on air asia ( to go to kota kinabula) with my partner and twin daughters at the end of march. Just wondering if there was any particular toy that people have found there kids love while travelling and its not too big?
Thankfully they do like looking at books so will take a few.

Has anyone flown air asia? I was going to get my partner to ring up and find out if we can take any food on for the girls and whats the deal with taking bottles and formula etc?

They seem to love keys, so i thought i'd take a few mock sets and maybe a couple of old mobile phones with the batteries out as they go nuts for them ( dont usually let them paly with them.. but for the sake of the trip).

Also I'm not breast feeding anymore so have people found that babies/toddlers using dummies, having a bottle ( just depends if they want it at the time) is enough to equalise their ears on the plane?

Also if anyone can has been to kota kinabula and can recommend get food places and good massage places or cool things to do with bubbas that would be awesome! :)

Hi Paris, we went to Malaysia with our almost one year old in September last year, although we flew Malaysian Airlines.

I was going to say books are good for entertaining, also someone told me one of those magna doodles are good if they like drawing. Definately take the mobiles, seriously anything that keeps them entertained on a 5 hr flight just do it lol.

With ears, my DD has been on a few flights now & has never really had an issue, we've just used the dummy on her & its been fine with equalising pressure. My DD is prone to ear aches, so we had her ears checked before we went just to make sure they werent dodgy. So keep that in mind if your twins are the same.

As for food, we initially thought we wouldnt be able to take food etc for DD, but as we were checking in they said anything for baby is fine. So you can do the whole bottles of water & formula containers if you like. Ring airasia though just to make sure its the same with them. As for milk once you are over there, decide whether you are going to take the step 3 formula cans with you in your luggage or just buy cartons of milk over there.

Havent been to KK, but just be careful where you eat. Dont go to any dodgy looking places on the side of the roads, I'm sure you are aware of this though. Just that DD had a few runny nappies but I think it was just her body adjusting to their style of food & cooking meathod.

Apart from that, be aware that your littlies will attract SO much attention from the locals, everyone wants to have a hold, take a photo etc. Especially seeing as you have twins I can just imagine it now lol. Its nice but towards the end its a bit whoa back off a sec would you. However the Malaysian people are beautiful, so friendly & accomodating & the hotel staff will do whatever necessary to make sure you are all comfy.

We are going back to Malaysia next month on airasia too (but baby free this time), so I'd be interested to hear what you think of them.

glad to hear you DD had no problems with her ears. (DD means dear daughter doesnt it, sorry if i got it wrong, i'm a bit braindead at the mo)

I was interested to see what the locals would be like with the kids... nice to hear they are all so friendly.. seems in someways more kid friendly... i do find people in australia get a bit of twin fever when i go out but then when ive gone out on my own and ive found myself reacting the same way and gushing over twins! lol

have a great trip by yourselfs, hope you have a lovely holiday and will try out the magna doodle. i havent tried drwing with them yet

Oh didnt realise that you are another Perthie! Yep DD is dear daughter, although sometimes I feel like changing it to TD - terror daughter!!!

The locals are SO lovely, they will gush all over your twinnies!

hi im getting confused about where to go to in malaysia :doh: ... was planning on kota kinabalu but know am wondering about panang or langkawi? can anyone give me some advice?

I've been to Penang, it was nice. If you choose Penang & you want to be close to the beach, night markets etc stay in Batu Ferringhi. Otherwise George Town is the shopping part, but its crowded & a bit dirty & not as scenic or touristy as BF. We stayed at the Lone Pine, its only a 3 star & definately would not call it flash, but the staff were so accomodating & the food & facilities were great. The night market was just outside the entrance to the hotel. We stayed there with our 11 month old & they fussed all over her.

As for Langkawi, we are going there shortly, but its more expensive accomodation wise than Penang.
