How would you word it?

Ok so some people know that we are wanting to move to another area - and DH knows there isn't much work for him in his area up there.

BUT.... the firm that he used to work for have an office up there- and apparently they have a fair bit of development up there, so they have a good chance of having work.

I told DH that I would draft up an email for him to send to his former employer, to see if he can be considered for any work that is going on up there.

So how do I word it? The background is that he worked for this firm from 2004 to 2007 - and then left because two of the directors left and started up their own firm - and asked him to come along. When he told the one director that was left that he was leaving, he fired him on the spot and we went about 3 weeks without any income coming in at all.

Now - that old firm merged with another firm - and that director doesn't have a say on human resources kind of stuff.

But how do I word it that he is interested in going back there - even though he left to go with the "traitors"?

My main line would be that you are moving back into the area. Also say that he enjoyed his time there and left the company to enhance his work experience . (If this is the case)

You will soon find out if his former boss has been contacted as to why he left.

We aren't moving back to the area - its just the area that we are wanting to move to has another office there (like, we live on the sunshine coast, he used to work at the mooloolaba office, and we are wanting to move to hervey bay and there is a local office of the firm there).

He did go with the other directors out of loyalty to one of them - because he had worked directly under him for 3 years. But he's unappreciated there, there is nowhere to go career-wise - because he is the highest you can get - they won't let him do project management or anything - so he can't even get his drafting license to start his own business.

However - if he went back to this BIG firm - there is opportunities there to move up.

O.K Something like you are looking at moving there, get the drift...

You could also say something along the line that he wants to learn new aspects of the business.

Just another rambling thought, can he go back to Uni or night school to get his drafting licence?

Riv - nah he's done all the schooling for it - he needs practical experience - he's got the experience in drafting because he has done it for ages now - but need the experience of being a project manager - which only happens in big firms.

(would have been helpful if he thought about this BEFORE leaving the big firm for the tiny firm!! lol)

What a pain

The sad reality might be that its somewhere else and not Hervey Bay to get work.

Another rambling thought - does he know anyone at the old firm & get them to suss out his chances of getting work there.

Yeah, he does have a contact there - thats what got him thinking of it in the first place. He still has contact with an old workmate who we caught up with on saturday who told him to just get in contact with the HR director and put some feelers out there...

Maybe he could say that due to personal developments he felt he had to move on at the time, and now that these needs have been forfilled he would like to know if there is an opportunity to regain emplyment within the company once again.

He doesnt have to say what the personal developments were....he could say a white lie and say that at the time his 'head' wasnt in the right place IFYKWIM and he thought it would be better to remove himself rather then display the negetivity and stress he had in his work.
