Hi all
we got our first delivery of fruit and veg yesterday.
Love it, very excited.
The only thing is, in the box was half a cabbage and I have never cooked with one before (sounds silly, I know)
What's something yummy I can make with it?
Thanks

Oh i love to make yummy stir fry with cabbage
Cabbage
Mince
Carrot
Snow peas
Onion
Corn spears
Broccoli
Cauliflower
1 packet Chicken noodle soup
teaspoon curry powder
Spalsh of wostershire sauce
Delish!!!
Thats pretty much the same recipe as my chow mein! Just add some soy sauce
Otherwise I fry up cabbage in any sort of stirfry
Also, I put a bit of water and butter in the bottom of a pan, and put the cabbage in, put the lid on. Only takes a few minutes. Then add some fried onion and bacon! Yumm!
You could make a lovely, summery kind of 'slaw...with carrot and maybe some sesame seeds or sunflower seeds, and a lemon-olive oil dressing rather than a heavy, creamy one. Apple and cabbage are really nice together, though it sounds strange...a saute of finely-sliced cabbage, apple, red onion (add a little sugar or honey and a splash of apple cider vinegar) goes really well with pork. Cabbage is nice to add to soups as well - there are lots of things you can do with it!
Sauteed with onion and bacon in a little butter - as a side dish....mmmmm.
Cabbage is in a lot of asian dishes, things like spring rolls. It has a lovely sweet flavour, but IMO you either need to shred it finely OR cook it well. Otherwise it squeaks when you eat it LOL
heres a couple of ideas
cabbage sliced thinly , cut some bacon into small cubes ,add alittle butter with a teaspoon of olive oil into frypan
combined all item cook for about 10/ 15 minutes . add salt pepper to taste .
no2
8 pork/veal sausages
6 medium potatoes cut in quarters
half cabbage
spicy spanish with smoked paprika ( mccormick)
cook snags , cook potatoes in mircowave for 8 minutes
add them in cassrole dish with a 1/4 chicken stock
add cabbage in stir all items add spice salt/ pepper to taste
cook for about 20 minutes about 160 deg stir a couple times .
hope these ideas heap , good cooking
lol I have to say the first thought i had was put the cold leaves on sore breasts rofl!!
Easiest thing is just to shred it, with bacon, onion, lots of butter and lots of salt and pepper, in the pan....awesome!
You can also add shredded brussell sprouts (dont all make that face at me!! lol) to that and it is fabulous...
...Though maybe one not for when you are suffering a certain phase of pregnancy where your pants make noises lol
LOL, never mind the boobies, this was my first thought!:

How about just shredded and steamed with a smidge of butter as a side to your meat or whatever.
You can make that chinese noodle salad with regular cabbage too (doesn't have to be chinese cabbage).
Oh, and spring rolls are a fab idea, though they can be fiddly, I suppose.
i love cabbage and butter and mint sauce, normally we sue it in soups or in my fav chow mien
 I could have written the opening post word for word! :D Lucky we have bacon and onion!
If you are UTD, take the outer leaves off and put them in the freezer ready for BFing. You can do almost anything with it, I shed it to make pasta sauce go further and in the mince for shepherds pie, Pretty much anything that you do with Cauli or Brocolli can be done with cabbage added, plus the cabbage can be used raw for coleslaw.
Apple slaw is really yummy - 1/2 cabbage shredded 2 granny smiths grated and dress with whole egg mayo mixes with lemon juice, honey and a bit of dijon mustard.
