We are having our wedding at our place in a couple of weeks and my tiles are looking pretty grotty. The grout seems to be fairly ingrained with dirt, mainly due to us walking in & out tending to the garden! Is there any way of cleaning it myself so it looks half decent? I got a professional quote and he wanted $500!! :o
I tried to scrub ours with a stiff scrubbing brush and bleach, it come up ok but not brand new. Otherwise if you have the time and inclination you could re-grout the tiles yourself. You can get the stuff from a hardware place. My gf did it and it looked great but she said it took ages to do.....
Domestos and a scouring pad ;) A bit of work involved but tackle it one section at a time and it will come up great.

The grout gel bleach, the tiles windex ;) And use a terry flat or a torn up old towel for the windex.
I was once told by a tiler to use vinegar to clean tiles etc (add some water )
Vinegar from memory is fairly cheap.
It might be worth giving it a try.
Not very healthy or environmentally-friendly, but spray / pour with neat bleach and leave for a couple of hours. Then rinse and then (this is the best part) - use an old, hard toothbrush (try a scourer first, but the toothbrush definitely works! Good luck and I hope you get it all clean :)
I use domestos when I have to. Just squirt it all over the place (lol) and leave it for about 4 hours.
Just make sure the windows and exhaust fan are on!
If that is a little harsh though, get yourself some white vinegar and some bicarb and make a paste, and a toothbrush, a hard one, and go to town....a PITA but it is pretty effective.
I think you can get some stuff at a hardware store that is like grout paint...it goes on like white out and can match to just about any colour grout. Fairly cheap too.
But tell the man to take his $500 and...well, you know! lol
I know $500!!?? I was thinking maybe $200 max....
Thanks girls for all your tips. I think tomorrow I'll be a busy lady. I might get DP to take DD to the pools or something as I hate using bleach etc for cleaning when she is around, the fumes are nasty!
You can buy grout paint - you do need to use a cleaner on it first then paint over the existing grout and it will look new (well newer)!
:yeahthat: You can get a grout pen from Bunnings. I think 1 pen does about 30m and they are roughly under $20 I think.

When my husband and I were renting we had a brand new (6 month old) house with white tiles. They had a tenant in there for about 6 weeks before we moved in and the floors were filthy!!! I used a steam mop which took a while but brought the grout up really well!
