He has broken out in a rash.

Last week i posted about my son being told he has a cold by 1 dr then another dr diagnosed him with a ear and chest infection.
Well today he has broken out in a rash from top to knee, its all over his face ears chest back and tummy and underams, but does not seam to be on his legs.
When my mum bought his antibiotics the lady at the counter had said if he breaks out in a rash it means he is allergic to it and stop imediatly, but it would happen after his first dose.
And that was a week ago.
Im not sure if its a heat rash, milk rash, as he started full cream milk, but that also was over a week ago, or if it is realated to his infection?
Im going to keep an eye on it to see if it fades over the course of the day, and im about to give him a cool bath as he feels warm.
Appart from taking him to the dr, which i will do if there is no improvement, what else can i do for him?

Give the Chemist a ring and let him know what has happened. He will be able to advise you if you need to take him back to the Drs. as he will have seen this type of thing often.

Thanks Rivlas, i have just given him a cool bath and the rash is still there, its even on his skin around his doodle. I have put the aircon on to help cool him down also.
He seams quite happy although he did not enjoy his bath and every now and then he has a litttle winge.

Its probably a viral rash hun. Just the infection working its way out of his system :)
If its not causing him any discomfort I wouldn't be too worried.
Viral rashes are usually just small red dots on white all over. HTH :)

Thanks bjrose, i thought of that also, its pretty full on, it is red on white, some raised some flat.
The antibiotics dont seam to be working well though, he is still quite chesty and wheezy.
He started them last mon, he has 3ml twice a day, its called maxamox suspension, it contains amoxycillin.
He has finally fallen asleep.

Edit. He has just woken screaming and his rash is even worse, made a dr appointment, but its not till 3.

You could take him to A&E if you want. You may have to wait, but I've never waited too long with mine as babies.
Or you could just go to your gp's office & sit & wait til they can fit you in earlier.

Its been a few hours and the rash is still there, he has gone back to sleep and did not eat his lunch, so will see what they say at the drs this arvo.

Just a quick thanks to all that replied, it turns out that his rash is from having an allergic reaction to penicillion. (sp?)

My DH was allergic to penicillin as a baby & broke out on blisters that looked like ciggarette burns.
DD1 is allergic to Amoxil a different type of antibiotic & broke out in a huge red rash down one side of her torso. Her skin was all red with spots though.
Hope the new ABs help & he feels better soon :)

He was taking antibiotics that contained amoxycillin trihydrate, a form of penicillion.
The top half of his body looked more red with white spots by the end of it all.
It is really raised and full on red behind his ears and back of his neck, his poor little eye lids are also swollen a little.
Forgot to ask though how long the rash will take to dissapear.
and he seams very grumpy atm.

It will take a day or two, just watch for itching which can sometimes happen but its usually pretty mild.

I have a DD who is allergic to any form of penicillin so make sure the Dr has it written on his file.
It also doesn't hurt to remind the Dr when you need more medication (learnt that from experience) as you don't want to be spending extra money for a script that should never have been given.

If this is the correct script you will notice a difference in about 36 hours.

thanks Rivlas, his rash has faded this morning, but it has also spread, it is now on his hands, which was not there yesterday, and last night he was so grumpy that when he rubbed his eyes, his eyelids swelled up.
He looks kind normal, but like he has a bad sunburn all over.

I feel like a bad mum, and i know its not my fault, i am not a mind reader, so didnt know he had any allergies, but i still feel so bad that this is ahppening to my little boy.

Even though he only broke out in a rash, should i be getting him a medi alert braclet? mum forgot to ask the dr.

The dr also said, not to worry about anymore medicine, he said the infection was almost gone, and to get demazin for the runny nose.
Of course u cant get demazin for under 2, so not sure why dr said to get it, hubby went and got some anyway for the other kids, and we just gave him .6, so hopefully that might help.

I know the feeling re bad mum but its nobodies fault. You never know with medication until you have tried it.
From experience be careful with anything peanut based, egg and dried apricots.
My DD as an adult is still allergic to nuts and dried apricots. We can tell if she has eaten anything with these in it as she will start to sneeze and start feeling unwell, then we give her an antihistamine which seems to work.
Ah, the joys of having children. :lol:

I never had one for my DD just told anyone who was looking after her, NO DRUGS unless I was contacted first. It is possible that he will grow out of it and it could also be illness related.
My 1st DD reacted to a medication and we worked out it was because of her illness not an allergy.
