another suggestion!
I had a thread up a couple of weeks ago about a name of Evan for a baby girl...(we discussed various spellings etc)
I still like it but want to know what everyone's honest opinions are of THIS variation of the name..
Eaven
I really really like it!! BUT
upon first glimpse would you pronounce the name as 'Ayvan' or as 'heaven'-missing the H of course ;)
Its an Irish name I believe and alot of Irish names start with E but the E's are silent. Like Eamon for eg.
I don't particularly want this E to be silent.....well...
it REALLY doesn't bother me as 'ayvan' pronunciation is gorgeous too!
What y'all think?:wall::dunno:
-
I posted a thread about this name last year!!! :)
I love it, think its gorgeous. And would say it Ay-ven :)
-
I wouldn't pronounce it Evan - I would pronounce it Ayven too!
-
-
On first glance I pronounced it even.
-
I mentioned this name to my partner and he doesn't like it....:doh:
He says its too confusing to say! :wall:
-
I would say Ayvan, but why not spell it like that...Ayvan...i think that is gorgeous
-
Thanks for the replies ladies :D
Upon mentioning it to Maarty he reckons Ayvan is too simmilar to AVAN which is a brand name of caravan or something!!! (he sorta works in the 4wd/caravanning industry) lol
So what...!!! it just puts even more validity on the names gypsy like nature ;)
:p

my first thought wasto pronounce as Even.
-
When I first saw it too I thought it was even.
-
I actually really like it! I'm very fussy too. AY-VIN is how I think it should be said. Wow, it's lovely!
And it doesnt sound that much like AVAN. Its more like Aye-ven, not Ayevan. Much softer.
-
I love it, but then again, Im Irish! lol
I think though most people would pronounce it Ee-vin (as in Even)
If they knew it was an Irish name though, perhaps they would pronounce it correctly...? It means "fair one" btw...
If you like Irish names, and Evan, what about Eabha - it is pronounced AW-va - it is he Celtic version of Eve - meaning breath of life :0
Good luck!
