Low motility + low mortality ... help!

Following all you ladies' advices, I got my hubby to test it out and got the results back ... and his sperms hardly swim and a lot of them are dead ... I am so angry!

Not angry at hubby but angry at trusting those home sperm test and not test much earlier! Doc said it's not impossible to conceive naturally but it'd be much harder ... and I have learned it the hard way already ...

Would any of you ladies face the similar problems and have any advices for us? I am seeing Annalise (acupuncturist) myself and am going to bring my hubby to see her, too ... but is there any other thing we can do? Doc said it'd take at least 3 months before we can book in to see any specialist ... and I seriously have waited long enough.

I did a bit of search online but didn't seem to get very much other than through IVF or similar ... aren't there any natural alternatives?

Is your DH on menevit? This contains vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that should help improve sperm quality. My husband was just referred these by our new FS along with garlic tablets, fish oil tablets, hot tomatoes (yes hot), berries - eg strawberries etc, green leafy vegetables (this one was both of us).

The other things to do are look at are alcohol/caffeine intake.

It takes about 3 months for sperm to reproduce, so the sooner you start on this....

I have to agree with Cece get your man on menevit. Our story - very quickly...TTC naturally no luck for about 3 years... Began IVF last Jan - fell pregnant 1st time but miscarried @ 8 weeks, then FET (same batch just frozen transfer instead of fresh) didn't take at all. We then got hubby onto menevit. Took it for 5 months and had another fresh IVF cycle (I also began acupuncture - I really think this helps too!). So with the 2nd fresh cycle we had twice as many healthy embies including this one I am pregnant with now! Our fertility problem was only male factor. I really do think the menevit made a difference, I admit I don't fully undertsand the whole science behind it but it is natural - basically vitamins!

Your hubby has a chance to 'rejuvanate' his sperm every 3 months. So get onto the menevit. Also sorry if TMI - but frequent ejaculation also helps. Studies show that the numbers may decrease slightly but the health is improved. So hubby also did this to help spermidoos! Also, as we used ICSI technique few soerm are required it is the quality not quantity that really matters. I am not sure if this is what your FS has recommended??When you want a baby you'll try anything hey?

this whole FS thing is driving me nuts ... my gp told me the queue to see the FS she referred me is about 3 months at the moment ... and i have been calling for the past few days to make an appt, but couldn't even get through the phone ... this is insane ...

Just wondering with the ICSI ... does that still require you to be on self-injections for the two weeks leading up to O? I read up a bit on IVF and it freaks me out ...

Yes ... have put hubby on Menevit right away (literally tonight!) ...

As with acupuncturist ... are you in Melb? Do you have a good one to recommend?

Thanks for congrats hun - it really is a miracle. But remember it does and can and will happen!!!

Well done on getting hubby straight into menevit. By the time you see your FS his sperm results may even improve...stranger things have happened! Remeber lots of spanky for DH too! It is important!!!!! ;)

I'm in Adelaide...but there are girls who would definately be able to recommend some in Melb. Or you could try the BellyBelly centre - I am pretty sure they have fertility acupuncturists there!!! What better place could there be??;) I have read some posts from Chris Tan (I think that is his name sorry if I am wrong :redface:) and he practices there - he sounds great!

Basically ICSI is the same as IVF but instead of putting your gorgeous egg in a dish with many of hubbies super sperm (which trust me they will be!!!) they look at his sperm under the microscope and choose the very best, healthiest looking one... they suck it into a very fine needle and inject it into your lovely egg. So basically a lot of the hard work is done for them :lol: Don't worry my hubbies sperm where swimming the wrong way!!!! I used to jokingly tease him and say 'durrr ..... so where is this egg boyz' - in an Italian mobster accent - even he thought it was funny!!

So from there they will look at the embies for a few days and see which ones develop properly. Don't be disheartened if you loose some in the process - you most likely will. We began with 12 suitable eggs - from that 7 fertilised and 6 made it to transfer or freezing (we have some frosties for later in the freezer..)

Trust me about the injections they do not hurt. The lead up can be worse and trust me by then you will just be happy that your cycle is going ahead and soon you will have some embies in your belly :hug: Plus we can always help you along the way. BB helped me so so much during the whole process. Try not to be overwhelmed just think each step is a step closer to my forever baby.....

My DH has bad sperm, but is not one to try 'natural' remedies or go onto vitamins - I tried, but not his style.

For us, IVF with ICSI (where they select a good sperm and inject it into the egg) was our only hope...and after a few goes it worked - so there is hope that you can have a baby, but it just might take intervention.

Re getting into a FS - if you go to the MIVF website (google Melbourne IVF), under the contact us page, they promise to get you in to see a specialist in 14 days - I'm not sure how right that is, but they have it in writing so you could always give them a call and test it! I'm not sure how you go with getting a referal - you might need to go back to see your GP once you have an appointment, but if you wanted to see someone asap, it might be an option. You could always still see an FS recommended by your GP as a second opinion if you wanted to.

Good luck - it is frustrating trying to get answers so I hope that you are able to get some soon.

My hubby has premature testicular failure and his count and motility are failing rapidly and they dont know the cause of it. They recommended we freeze his sperm so we will have ones we need for ICSI. He also takes menevit and was recommended to take Vit C and Vit E as well and reduce stress levels. It wont help his count but will help the quality. He was also advised to have "alone time" every day as it keeps the freshness and encourages production.
I am on CD7 and have the injections - the needle is so fine you dont feel it and to be honest i was really scared cos i hate needles but the anticipation is worse than the injection! May have to have more because i have to change to lucrin and not synarel...
So, to sum up my long-winded post - good luck in getting your appointment, and try and get on a cancellation list. We are in perth but we got an appt in about 3 weeks due to cancellation.

Farmgirl - we took your advice and called around (MIVF) right away and coincidentally, we booked in with Dr. Whitehead ... I think she was your FS before as well?

For all of you who have seen Dr. Whitehead ... is Dr. whitehead experienced with male factor as well? I saw her bio that she specialises in PCOS so wonder whether she has seen much of male issues as well?
