Sick of stupid CIO advice!!

Anyone else sick of being told the reason why bub doesn?t sleep is because "you?re too soft"?? :rolleyes: ?Just let him cry himself back to sleep?! How about NO! I?m so tired of well-meaning but ill-informed friends and family advising us on how to get DS to sleep through the night. Of course their advice is based on.....well nothing!!

I just want to tell them to go do some research about how letting a bub cry actually affects their mental health and the way their brain develops ? that stuff is long term!! But then I?d look like an up-myself, know-it-all wouldn?t I?!!

Sure, I?m tired and I?d LOVE to get a good night?s sleep but these early years are so important to bub and really it?s a blink of an eye in DS?s whole life span.

Whenever DS wakes up crying at night and we get upset about having to get up, DH and I recite our mantra ?we?re building the foundations?.

Just wanted a bit of a vent with people who understand :grouphug:

babymama.. just wanted to reassure you that your decisions on how you bring up your child are your decisions. Meaning.. get stuffed to everyone else.

Being a parent, we all have different parenting techniques, but that doesn't make you right and me wrong or vice versa.. it means that each of us cares enough to make an informed choice about how we want to raise our children within our family structure... IYKWIM.

just smile and nod when ppl give you "advice" and keep remembering that your angel is yours and your DH.. and you have to live with whatever parenting techniques you choose.

If that the case I must have been the softest mother on this earth as my 2nd DD was 2 1/2 before she slept through. Some kids are good sleepers some aren't, its just the way they are. My 2 DD were so different yet we did nothing different.
Every child is different and just remember in a dozen years or so you will be needing a crowbar to get him out of bed. :rolleyes:
Just smile and say he is well and that's all that matters.

:redface: well I still get up to Charlie who will be 2 in April & not only do we get up once at night, he is still fed & I still feed him the bottle....why??? becuase I never wanted to start the habit of him having it & then making a mess or finding it again & asking for more etc so I always got him out & fed him. Now he wont have it any other way....but you know what...........I don't care. It's only once & it means usually a sleep in if he is fed & that cuddle at night is the nicest one I get all day!

We tried to let him CIO & then he would teeth or get sick & you are back to square one that it was just not worth it....they change everyday...just roll with it.

I stopped telling people about DD's sleeping. Or I pre-empted it by saying that I would never let her CIO.
Your DS will get it sooner or later. DD started sleeping through the night at 19 months. She only wakes up occasionally now (maybe once a week). I didn't CC her. She also self-weaned at the same time. I guess she was just ready. But I am prepared that she might revert back once her little brother or sister joins us out here.
I found that the less i worried about her sleeping (was quite bad from about 9-12 months), the saner i was and the better her sleeping was.

They will all do it in their own time.

I am glad I am not the only one!!! I am actually just sick of sleep advice in general...

I have finally realised that I rock/bounce/feed/sing my baby to sleep because I CHOOSE to! Because the CIO option is actually so tortuous to me, I am sure it is doing more harm than good.

I LOVE cuddling my sleepy baby! All those CIO people are actually missing out on some beautiful bonding time.

Anna, I so know where you're coming from. While I would lie if I said that I always appreciated midnight "bonding sessions", I wouldn't have it any other way.
I still cuddle DD to a sleepy state before putting her in the cot. I love it. She doesn't need it anymore, she goes down just fine if I just put her into her cot, maybe sing a song for her and leave. But I love our cuddles and am not ready to give them up.
