Bianca is just over 4mths old now and is still on 1mth+ teats - i think she is starting to get frustrated with the flow cause she is very restless when drinking and gets cranky alot - so i have tried to change the teat to the next one up 3mth+ but she chokes on it and it goes everywhere - is this normal for her to still be on 1mth+?
Also she had her tongue tie snipped on monday so was wondering maybe she is still getting use to being able to move her tongue around more?????
HJ. I'm having issies with DD also... she is 9 months and still on newborn teats... I have tried the next sized teats but same thing. i have tried spout bottles/cups etc still not sure what to do with them.
If she got her tongue tie cut i would say her suck reflex may have changed die to the new movement perhaps... not sure... maybe someone else who has a bubs with a tounge tie would know if thats normal... Just letting you know were the same as in stil on 1st teats... and DD getting frustrated too but when i change she gets soaked. Maybe i should just chage so she can adjust (might be messy but might help:dunno:)

Thanks Jess - sucks i know but its good to hear that Bianca is not the only one that this is happening too! we just might perserve and keep trying the 3mth+ ones she has to get use to it eventually - i would be happy to keep her on the 1mth+ ones but im pretty sure her cranks are cause she is getting frustrated over it!

You could try a cross cut teat - the flow is regulated by how hard the baby sucks, not by the size of the hole in the teat. So bub can regulate the flow of milk. I think avent have one?
How interesting, I was just going to post the exact same issue.
Bella is thrashing about cause it's not fast enough ( I think that's the reason anyway ) but the next size up just runs everywhere and she chokes.
Now feeding time is turning into a real nightmare. The only bottle that's not a hassle is the one she has when she is still half asleep at 2am.
i posted in our baby buddy thread but ill post here too. So is she on the 1 month or 2 month ones. 1 month has 1 hole.. 2 months have 2 holes. Mia is still on the 2 month ones.. I got a couple of the 3 month ones and she gags and choke and splutters and it goes everywhere..
My 12 week old is still on the newborn single hole avent teats. With slightly thickened formula...
We tried him on the 1+ month two hole teats when he hit the appropriate age and ended up with all sorts of trouble because he wasn't sucking hard enough. His formula was basically just pooling in his throat and not getting into his stomach as he wasn't sucking hard enough to get the "valve" at the top of the stomach to open. Or that's what the lady in the chemist suggested, anyway. Going back to the single hole teats seemed to solve the problem.
At one point in time when Sam was on full AR formula we tried the variable flow avent teat... NEVER again! The hole in it was so big that the formula would just run out and it just didn't work at all.
I think we're probably ready to try the 2-hole teats again, but the results were so bad last time we're a bit reluctant to mess with what's working. Most bottles he'll get down in 15 minutes or so, but every so often he'll take 30+ minutes with one. I guess he just has lazy feeds at times.

Nic - i know what u mean about feeding becomming a complete nightmare! we are going thru that too - and yep the only feed where she is good is our 3am feed!!!
Hollye - i think we are actually on the 1mth+ teats - cant find 2mths+ anywhere and the little fold out thingy i have that comes with the teats only has 0m+ 1m+ 3m+ and 6m+ - plus a special one for thicker liquids! but on the fold out info it says 1m+ has 2 holes and 3m+ has 3 holes?!
BW - on my little fold out it says u can get 3m+ for thicker liquids which has 1 slot - not 1 hole? not sure if that will help u at all tho - might still be too fast!
It was the one wuth the slot that we tried. Nightmare city!
From my searching on the website and in chemists, it is just the 1, 2, 3 and 4 hole teats corresponding to 0, 1, 3 and 6 months and the 3+ months slotted teat that they do. I get less confused if I go by the number of holes rather than the suggested ages.
It has suddenly occurred to me that it may be worth using a little thickener to help ease the transition to te next teat?

the ones we have are 2+ months. Says 2 on the side of it. The newborn ones say 1 on the side i think.......
The numbers on the teats refer to the number of holes, not the age.
Number 1 - 1 hole, for newborns
Number 2 - 2 holes, for 1m+
Number 3 - 3 holes, for 3m+
Number 4 - 4 holes, for 6m+
And then the variable flow one doesn't have a number, just the different groups of lines to align with the baby's nose.

BW - when Mia was on the AR formula i didnt use avent teats. I got the normal variable flow ones from big w. She didnt have a problem with them. They are in a plastic round sorta case and theres 2 in a pack for about $4-5 i think.. no more than $5. HTH
