Mylanta worked for me.
Zantac is what they told me to get when my heartburn got really really bad and it worked a treat!
I came across quick eze... I think it is..the chews in wildberry flavour, you can buy a multi pack of them from Woolies/Safeway ;)....YUMMY and do the job for me! You can also try fruit tingles.
Renni worked for me, as did Mylanta but Mylanta made me feel sick.
Don't eat big meals especially at night, don't eat/drink coffee, onion, garlic, pineapple, orange, chocolate, tomatoes or any acid type foods. With DD1 I slept upright for most of my pregnancy.
Pepermint tea helped sometimes.
i get it bad (and have a stomach ulcer which makes it soooo bad)... mylanta when it isnt too bad, then move onto gaviscon and then finally zantac. my OB recommended the gaviscon route to me..
i am also trying a natural remedy now, umeboshi plums (japanese pickled plums) - you eat a tiny amt. they are a natural alkaline i think... some ppl swear by them.. i am just trying so will let you know how i go - you can get from health food shops.
if it's really bad (which it sounds like it is) speak to your care provider - i eventually got put on some anti-reflux meds - and omg - they are my saviour!!
between them and quiz eze (the chewy squares, not the chewable round powdery ones) - i have been feeling a fair amount less discomfort the past few weeks
i was going through a pack of quik eze a day - it's now down to maybe one a week....
I had really bad heartburn, thought it was a one off and then got it again 5 days later. The first time it was sooo bad i threw up which made it unbearable. I would eqaute to giving birth pain and i am not joking either (my dh could tell i was serious as i was moaning way louder than i ever did in labour)
I took mylanta the second time which did help a bit but wasn't great. It helped that i had it handy and the pain was much less than the first time.
I took preventative mylanta for a week before bed & slept with an extra pillow. A week later the yucky taste was gone from my mouth and have been okay since. I think the trowing up stripped my insides which made me more prone to it. I also noticed the yucky taste flared up after drinking coke.
I now have had heartburn 3 times in my life and only ever wken with it in teh middle of the night, i never ate close to bed time any of the times. Though the common element with the first time non-preg and first time preg was i'd eaten a really rich steak at a restaurant for dinner.
Rennie's worked for me and avoiding acidy foods...especially vegemite that was the worst!
Also sleep upright that really helped me too...It lasted right until Ds was born then BAM it went away!
I am considering buying shares in 'Andrew's Tums' - antacids. These are perfectly safe and don't taste too bad either! GL!!
My local pharmacist recommended Tums as they dont contain the things that cause constipation - yep I have that already too!
I had heartburn & reflux bad with DD...the OBS put me on Zantac because he said the heartburn/reflux could cause permanent damage if I didn't treat it. It worked soooo well and as soon as DD was born, I didn't need it any more. :)
how are you going now? mine is REALLY bad the last 2 days... ouch and yuk!
Tums are the ONLY thing that works for me. They are a supermarket line and not expensive.
Zantac works great too but when I was on it it was prescription only so will be a bit more $$.
