We have tried to give our 6 month old some pharmacy brand paracemtamol but as soon as the dropper hit her mouth and we squeezed a little bit in her mouth she projectile vomited so I thought I would try panadol and the same thing happened she is keeping hte antibiotics down fine so I know it's not a gag reflex
just wondering if anyone has had this happen and if it means that she is allergic to paracetamol
p.s this is the first time we have given it to her
Exactly the same thing happened to my DD. But having a taste myself i can kind of see why. Their poor little stomachs have had nothing but milk and perhaps a few bland vegies, and they make the most sickly sweet tasting cheery syrup. :wall:
I used suppositories when she was that little (available in pharmacies) and now she has dymadon and has no issues. She still wont take panadol, she gags and spits it out.
It can be tricky getting it into little ones - an allergy to paracetamol is extremely rare & would not present this way - especially so soon after administering it.
Tiny little bits a bit at a time is the best way. Dymadon is paracetamol just a different brand. The taste though may be different as it's not the same flavouring perhaps.

Oh yeah, i didn't mean Dymadon wasn't paracetamol, the flavour just sees less harsh. ;)
Try putting the syringe into the side of her mouth and point it to the back of her throat. Just a little at a time so she can swllow. :hug:
My DS would spit the panaol brand drops straight back at me, so I tried the dymadon brand, and he is happy to take that. Also, if you are using nurofen, they have an orange flavored one too. Good luck in getting your little one to swallow the paracetamol. xo
My kids hate panadol (paracetemol) too. Neurofen has always worked well. Also what flowerchild suggested is exactly what I would've written - it works great!

Thanks ladies I have tried a few angles and even just letting a little bit go on her tongue like the 1300 health nurse said but it doesn't work I guess she's just not a paracetamol baby honestly I don't know why she is keeping the anti biotics down and not the panadol the AB's smell disgusting
The trick is to get her to swallow straight after - this will keep it down. So toward the back of the throat flicks her swallow reflex on. I wouldn't put it on her tongue - this is where she has taste buds and that will cause her to spit it out. Stroke her throat afterward much like you would giving an animal meds (sorry but it's a similar theory! :redface:) HTH
One of my earliest memories is vomiting up baby panadol... I remember the nasty taste so vividly... And, even now, the smell of it sets me right off... YICK... So I can totally get whey babies don't like it...
ETA - Flowerchild is so right, if you can avoid the tongue it should go down...
we gave her neurofin and she kept it down hopefuly her temp goes down
You can always try a tepid bath too... I gave DS one this week, when his temp was not coming down, with the panadene and nurofen, and it helped out.
DD1 was also a panadol vomitter but Dymadon was fine.
