Undecended testical, when should I be concerned?

I got so many mixed opinions on this when Iain was born & I really am not sure who is right.
When Iain was born his testes undescended. They could be felt & the right one could be moved down.
But now, he is 4 months old. I am unsure that I can feel the left one & if I can its very small compared to the other side.
I have a Dr app in an hour but I want to have a bit of info up my sleeve so I know he knows what he is on about as the last time I seen him about it he seemed to think it would be fine & not to worry unless its still not come down when he hit puberty.....

Im thinking I will just ask for a referral to the pead

We have the same thing with our son who is now 4.5 years. Our surgeon examined him and is happy that we can see the teste once every six months or so. He thinks that once DS is around seven yo it should be down full time. If it isnt then we will operate. The risk of torsion (twisting on itself) and cancer and sub fertility outweigh the risk of the operation in our opinion.

Our surgeon is pretty conservative as they often are so I am confidant that if it needed to be done by now it would have been.

thanks for that. Im just worried if what i can feel is the teste, then its very small compared to the other. im talking less the hakf the size of the other....

Do you mean that once it is descended it is smaller or when you are feeling it retracted it feels small?

I am not sure that that would be a reason to surgically descend it anyway. Let me know what your Dr says. I would be asking for a referral too. We have a paed. I think GP are good but definitely limited in treating children.

Maybe TMI but DH's testicles are different sizes - i guess Ithought that was normal?? He has enough offspring for his fertility not to be an issue too...

Well I could push the teste down into the scrotum when he was smaller. But now I can't but I can feel when I think is the teste high up but if it is the teste its very small.

I seen the Dr & he isn't my regular one. I normally see the lady Dr & OMG this bloke was an idiot.
He gave me a referral for an ultrasound but I think I will just go back & ask to see the lady Dr & get a referral to the pead.
Amoungst offering my 4 month old a LOLLIE POP after his needles, I had to keep reminding him of the other things I was there for (teste & also an eye problem) Then I still didn't get everything I needed to do while there.
Oh and he kept try to get Isla to give him a hug! She was really uncomfortable with him being so in her face but he just kept pushing. I will make sure I don't see him again.

My eldest had his testicle stitched in place in August last year. Both of his were undescended but one could be moved into place so the doctors expect that one to drop on its own by about 7 years old. The second one could not be moved into the correct position so they operated.

I was told there is a higher risk of testicular cancer if the testicles do not descend properly by the end of the boys second year, even if they do drop at a later stage. I was more concerned at the much higher risk of twisting that can occur which I was told is excruciatingly painful. I was told that if Cooper (my son) ever started screaming in pain, then get him medical assistance quickly as they do not untwist on their own.

The surgery itself was very quick and it was a day procedure. In my opinion, I would talk to a paed and get a second opinion as well.

My dad had an undescended testicle until he was nealry 12 (so did his brother, and his daft parents waited until his YOUNGER brother was "old enough" for the operation, 10, and got them both done at the same time, even though my dad had hit puberty by then). When my dad was 14 he was fighting with said brother and his "good" (i.e. the one which had descended normally) testicle got twisted and the blood got cut off. He was taken to hospital but they couldn't save it - left it in situ but it withered away to nothing. He and mum had 4 pregnancies and 2 live-births from the undescended and too-lately operated on testicle and never had to try for more than a month, even though she was 38 before they started trying, so i wouldn't worry too much about fertility.

Definitely get a referral to a paed. I really wouldn't worry about it feeling smaller when it is up inside as I would expect that the vas deferans (sp) tube would be floating somewhere else inside as opposed to when it is descended it all fits into the scrotum (but I am not a Dr!).

I am more concerned for him as a grown man only having 1 testicl. I would think it would be much the same feeling as it is for women with obviously different sized breasts KWIM.
I know thats a long way off to be concerned about I just don't want to risk anything by waiting.

I think what I can possible feel is the vas deferans. But im not to sure.
