Anyone seen a rash like this before?

It came up a day after my son was born. Started on my upper thighs. Has spread to my bum, hips, lower back, upper arms, fronts and backs of calves, a small patch on my belly and there are three spots on one of my bbies. It itches like crazy and I haven't been able to stop itching it. Currently putting cortisone cream on it to see if that will help. Seems to have stopped it spreading but it's only been a couple of days.

Any ideas girls on what this is and what the best way to treat it would be? I'm going nuts here!!

Oh, ignore the 'sexy' looking socks. I've had massive fluid retention since birth and am wearing the delightful TEDS stockings so I don't get blood clots :doh: Feeling ultra attractive atm :(

Hmm i'd keep going with a cortisone and maybe something like a dermaveen cream with some oatmeal in it?? Its meant to be a soothing cream... or maybe some aloe vera

Thanks Jenni. It has marginally improved over the last 24 hours so I will keep going with the cortisone and see what happens.

It looks like a bad case of psoriasis (sp?) I get it really bad as well - and this is what mine looks like when it really flares up. And i know what you mean about scratching it! its impossible not to! So i am not even going to say stop coz i know what its like! Cold face washers seem to sooth it - as well as cooling lotions - i find that if i am too hot it tends to flare up. i normally use a quarterzone creame - maybe see the dr and get a specific one for that particular rash.

Also - have you taken some antihistromine (sp?) tablets - it might help eliminate if it is an allergic reaction to something, if its a reaction it should all but go away, if not it should at the very least help with the itching!

Thanks Elyse - I've never had psoriasis before so don't know what it looks like but I might mention that to the doc next time I see him. The rash on my legs in the photo is much worse than the rest of the areas which are more spotty but just as itchy. It does flare up with heat and the places I've got it lend to that theory as well.

I get it the worst on my legs in that exact place. I do get it all over the rest of my body - but in rather smaller patches (more like 50c peices or smaller)

One thing that i forgot to mention - it might look quite dry - but do not under any circumstances exfoliate it! ( I made that mistake & it made it much worse!) Once the itching calms down - try and put some paw paw cream on it - i found this helped heaps - sometimes more than the quaterzone.

But you really should get it checked - the quaterzone you are using may not be the right one and could actually be burning the skin and making it worse - even if it is stoping the spread of it.

Pine Tarsel baths are also good for soothing it.

I soooooo feel for you though, its a horrible feeling!

thanks for the extra ideas. I haven't even been game to shave my legs since giving birth!! (eeewww I know but I'm too scared!).

The cream seems to be fading the rash - it is less angry looking. I'll keep going with it for a few more days. My doc is happy to refer me to a skin specialist/dermatologist but it's nearly a 2 hour drive away so I've been trying to avoid that if possible.

I'll try to get some paw paw ointment too. Cheers :)
