Wanting to try MCN.. Need advice!

So I've been waging a war against DF for a while now about MCN and using them.

I think they're awesome and really would like to use them, at the latest for our next one.

The agreement we struck was it had to be an all in one. No extra covers or anything, to simplify it for him - and a Lil Squirt of course!

So I guess I was just wondering what you guys would suggest. It will be a while before I can buy any - got another 1.5k left on wedding to pay off. (Almooooost there!)

But I like to be prepared and know my options - I know, I'm a bit odd!

So what would you lovely ladies suggest in the way of MCN that be DF friendly?

AIO's are daddy friendly (and grandma friendly!) but they take longer to dry because true AIO's don't pull apart, so you have a lot of layers to dry at the same time. Therefore, you need to spend money on getting more of them, because you need a bigger stash to allow for drying time.

Have you looked into pockets or AI2's at all? AI2's (like widdlewuns, itti bittis, genesa forge, pop in etc) come apart so not as many layers to dry all together - means they don't take as long to dry, therefore you don't need as many!! Cheaper!

Pockets, once stuffed, are just like an AIO, have a waterproof cover. I stuff my pockets and DH has no trouble with them with the kids. He even knows how to stuff the pockets now ;) But yeah, the pocket shells dry really quick, so it makes good financial sense to buy double the inserts than shells, because they will dry overnight, but the inserts take longer.

EVeryone has their favourites though - if you were wanting AIO's though, I have personally found that my Bumgenius and my Monkey Doodlez AIO's dry the quickest out of all of them.

And I was really taken by that, but I always get told not to take the first thing I look at. :lol:

I'm not too worried about drying time, cause things here dry really, really fast. (Something about being in the middle of a desert.) But that aside, I was going to get 30ish to start with and go from there to cover the difference in drying times.

I'll have a look at the AI2's, but DF is pretty adamant on simple lol. It's taken me a good few months to work him down this far!

Bumgenius are a good brand with an excellent reputation (for the most part). There are some reviews that the elastic goes in the legs really easily and the tabs start looking pretty shoddy pretty quickly (still work though).

Mine look a bit shoddy I admit, but my elastic has just gone in a few of them, and I've had them for a year now. Its pretty easy to get those replaced too - if you know who to ask. Plus they have a guarantee on them too.

AI2's are a good option and if you get ones that have the inserts that snap in - then once you have snapped it in, its easy to just put on and go.

It's funny how people think cloth nappies are so complicated.

I care for a little girl and had to leave her with my Mum for an hour. On this day, there were only disposables in the nappy bag. My Mum is not familiar with disposables, she knows cloth. When i came back, my little one has a floppy nappy put on back to front!

Disposable users prob think how can you mess that up? Its the same with cloth, once you get used to it, you are fine.

My friend babysat for DS when he was around... 4 months old? And I was still a sposie user then - we came to pick him up around midnight (we had been to a concert) and she was just changing him, and he was screaming his heart out.

When we got him home, I thought I would just *check* the nappy - yup - on backwards..

ROFL.. I've never laughed so hard in my life.....

Ironically.. DF put the first few disposables on back to front..

The other nappies I looked at were the Baby Beehinds, the bamboo fitted? I think thats them, they're a one size fits all but you need a liner?

I googled all the brands you mentioned, the ittibittis look cute. The pop ins too.

DF aside, Im kinda looking for something thats one size fits all so I can switch Munchkin over and also use them for a newborn.

The baby beehinds bamboo fitteds are not all in one. They are one size fits all (OSFA) and need a waterproof cover. They don't need a liner. They come with snap in boosters but you need to buy the cover separately. You can use the cover more than once (I usually use them about 3 times each I think) before it needs to be washed. I like the BBH but they do take a bit longer and if your DF is so dead set on AIO then prob not your best option!
The only AIO I have is a BBH Magic All. I like it but I haven't bothered to buy or try any more cos I'm too cheap and am making do with what I have :)

I was going to present the case of one size fits all to him and see what he says. Cause I kind of think he's not exactly sure what Im talking about half the time, and is looking for the option that causes him the less grief.

I am really for one size fits all, even if it means a cover.

I love my Baby beehinds OSFM fitteds. I use them on both kids, plus I use motherease covers, which have a great size range, so I get more use out of them.

I don't particularly like the baby beehinds AIO's though - for some reason they always leaked on us.

I like the BBH OSFA a lot and I wish I had more of them! I like the bamboo more than the hemp cos the hemp tends to feel very rough (or maybe it is just the way I wash it!) whereas the bamboo feels softer. They are really not that hard and if you put the boosters in when they have been washed it is even easier! It only takes a couple of seconds to pop the cover on. The only thing is they are snaps and not velcro so that takes a bit longer to do them up. Maybe get a few AIO for DF and the rest can be OSFA? I presume you will be doing most of the nappy changes anyway? OSFA is cheaper too cos they can do one baby the whole way rather than needing to buy sized options.

I really like the look of the BBH OSFA. I was gonna talk DF into getting a handful to try. Im sure he will figure it out quickly enough, if not I might look at getting him some AIO's to make it easier for him. :lol:

So I can use different brands of covers over the BBH ones? cause Ive seen some really funky looking covers that werent BBH.

Also - sort of relevant.. The little squirt, is it easy enough to install? And can I uninstall and move it to a different house?

Little squirt is super easy to install and to move houses, so thats not a problem.

You can use any cover over the BBH's (btw, bamboo is my fav too cos so much softer!) I use over mine, mazalicious covers, mother-ease covers and things like longies, shorties, soakers etc.
ETA - I don't particularly like the BBH covers because they left red marks on my kids legs? I think they reacted with the way that the elastic is done - not sure.

Yay. The Mazalicious covers are so adorable. The little minkee ones make me think I'd sit there and stroke them, cause they look so soft!

Kam there are some AI2 OSFA nappies around. Most of mine are (sorry I cant say too much but the info is in the MPM section)

My DH was all for simple when we started. He now knows how to put the nappies together, and will even hunt out the matching boosters and he puts them in the machine when the bucket is full. For me when it was a case of being simple, I just had to have it all ready for him to just grab one and put it on. Didn't matter how much I had to do to get it ready, as long as it was ready when he needed it. I still do that now because it makes it easier for me, and it makes it easy when we have a babysitter, but I know that DH can do it if he needs to.

I showed them to DF too, (He's home for lunch :dance:) He even said they looked good.
Its a good sign right?! I think he'd get the hang of it quickly anyway, hes just a bit uncertain of himself. He says I make things look easy when they arn't. :lol:

The couture ones look really cute. Why can I see myself buying alot of those?

Yeah mine are mostly coutures, I find them very easy, so easy that the daycare even get them and they havent had any trouble with them. The bigger booster snaps in and the smaller one is a lay-in, so it is just a matter of grabbing the shell and putting it together before putting them away. For little bubs they both lay in and the front folds down.

They sound wonderful and easy! :D

Hopefully we will be able to buy some soon. Just need to pay off the last of the wedding.
I'd really like to convert DD over to MCN and get rid of sposies.
I've used the terry flats with her a couple of times, but they're such a pain when she wriggles and undoes all my folding.
