Positive OPK at end of cycle???

Looking for some answers? Any ideas?

Here's a quick rundown.
I had a ectopic pregnancy four weeks ago and have been waiting for AF to arrive.
However, I was convinced I had not Oed yet.
I am not temping but thought I would do an OPK test to see what was happening?
Anyway, I got two positives yesterday and the day before. I was o.k. with this, thinking I would O in a day or two and AF would arrive in a couple of weeks.

Well, AF arrived today?????

My question is: Is it possible to have a LH surge prior to AF? or could something else be out of whack?

Any ideas much appreciated.

I guess no one else has any idea either. Now I'm starting to think it's not even AF. It kinda died down to a spotting that's a bit orangey in colour.
Now I'm a bit freaked.

OPK's can be positive in the presence of HCG. HCG is chemically very similar to LH - thus OPK"s can turn positive in the presence of a pregnancy OR during the LH surge. Given the bleeding it is unlikely that you are surging - though of course possible. If the bleeding has stopped it is very possible that it is an implantation bleed. Given your history I would advise you to get a serum hcg done. This will confirm or discount pregnancy. If you are pregnant then it will give you a baseline of hormones to track your pregnancy by.

Sandy, I think I read somewhere that you do get a LH surge just before AF arrives. I know I got ferning on my MaybeBaby just before AF came. So, it is possible that AF just had a false start. Hang in there hun :hug:.

Thanks for the insights Flowerchild. Unfortunately I can't be pregnant, as I haven't been able to DTD since the last ectopic 4 weeks ago. Thank God, other wise I really would have worried about another ectopic (even though the doc did say I had 0% chance of getting pregnant naturally), but I have little faith in doctors.

No you don't in a "normal" cycle get an LH surge prior to menstruation. LH is always present but the surge occurs just prior to ovulation. If you test with OPK throughout a cycle you will only get positives for the time around ovulation then the tests will go back to negative until the next cycle - unless you are pregnant.

Some women do get a little bleeding with ovulation - so spotting around ovulation can occur - perhaps this is what the bleeding is? If it is not possible that you are pregnant then perhaps it is bleeding associated with ovulation (follicle rupturing) . :hug:

I hope you are right Oscar. I hope AF comes full force tomorrow (I can't beleive I said that). I don't need more stress at the moment.

Thanks for the info Flowerchild. I'm really confused. Would follicle rupturing still give me a bleed if there are no tubes?

I just wanted to confirm that it wasn't ovulation and was AF. She came full force yesterday just as I asked. ;)
