just blathering on.....
DH and I have just agreed on baby names - finally! We are unsure of the sex so have to choose boy adn girl names. I chose Mathilde Jade (or maybe Mathilde Fay...), and DH wants James Charles, or James Martin, or James something. I'm not 100% sure I want James, mainly because we have so many friends called that and it is so common. But it is a good name and I think its important for DH to feel he has an equal say in our child's name (he doesn't of course, but gotta let the man believe :) ....)
If we do end up using James, I've been thinking of nicknaming him "Jay". Most James' I know are called Jimmy for short but Jay is a tad more individual. Personally I want Finnegan for a boy. I'll still keep saying it in the hope that DH changes his mind. But if he doesn't, I think I'll be happy with James :). In any case, since I think I may be having a girl, I'm mostly happy that he's okay with Mathilde Jade :)!!!!
Thanks for listening!

have you thought about variants of James if you don't like the name - check out other names that have similar meaning.
if we'd been having a boy, we wanted to have his middle name kinda like his dad (mn james) but didn't like it enough, so would have used Jameson

I'd keep pestering him for Finnegan! It's one of the top 5 boys names from our list!
BTW - is your girl name pronounced the same as Matilda?
-
Yeh, i too am curious as to how your girl's name is pronounced ;)
Finnegan is very different ... i like it
My middle name Jane is after my Mum's stepdad James
I love the idea of James shortened to Jay (or Jai ;))
... If it helps we had NO boys name until i gave birth (just couldn't agree) ... BUT luckily we too had agreed on a girl's name ... and yep, we had a little girl ... gee, she saved us a headache, LOL ;)

Yep - Mathilde is just the German spelling (a nod to my dad) but is pronounced like the Waltzing variety :)
BG - I like Jameson... Great idea! I'll work on that one.
Smiles - Even if we did go with Jameson I'd prolly stilll call him Jay.
Allipralli - I am still pestering, subtley I hope! I just love the sound of Finnegan James... it rolls off the tongue nicely and its soooo Irish, which is DH's heritage. I think thats why he doesnt want the Irish sounding names, too close to home.

James is such a fabulous middle name - it goes with pretty much anything! Finnegan James sounds great. Good luck! :)
