Washing & Brushing Hair - ARGH!!!!!!!!

OKAY! *pulls own hair out* :wall:

Please tell me there are other kids out there like mine??? Please??? :pray:

My DD since she was about 1.5 years old, maybe a bit older... has done nothing but made washing her hair and brushing her hair PURE HELL!!!

She fight's me washing her hair, and i end up just having to do it with her screaming, otherwise, it makes the second part of this even hard - brushing her hair IS a nightmare!! I mean a total, and utter NIGHTMARE!!

It takes me FOREVER to get her to come to me, and if i go to get her, she does the drop, or run away thing. I have tried EVERYTHING under the sun.

I am now just so sick of fighting to do something, that needs to be done on a daily basis. (hair washing once or twice a week)...

Thing is, GF's in the past have had no trouble washing her hair, and brushing. AND, if she is in a really good mood, and i can pick something good enough as a bribe, she is ok for me to do it... so i know it is just a power play thing. One that is doing my head in :( :wall:

While i am brushing, i get the array of crap... " your hurting me " .. which is just stoopid as i am doing it as gentle as i can. ARGH! Just so so so so frustrating...

I dont so much think there is much anyone can advise me or offer.... but just knowing im not alone would be great! AND - that it will get better!!!!!!!

Just so so so so very VERY sick of this......

Oh no!
You are soooo not alone. It is so hard being patient with it too...I have resorted to brushing by stealth - I have tried bribes, pretty hairbrush, games and nothing has worked. DD also needs a haircut and has screamed the place down on 3 occasions - :redface:
Last straw was MIL telling me she needs a) her hair up (if only...) and b) a trim (sure no worries).

They are stubborn buggers aren't they????

Nope your not alone. Both my girls are the same, but only with my DP and I. When they were last at my sisters my eldest daughter let her braid her hair! I couldn't believe it!

As for washing their hair...........what a nightmare!

Why don't you just cut it short? She can grow it longer when she is old enough to take care of it.

DD has a lovely pageboy (growing out now though) and it saves all the tears - looks much better than ratty knots!

:redface: lol your gonna laugh but... im growing her hair, as i am mine..for our wedding (when DF and i finally get to go through with wedding date - lol been put off twice - but she calls it "our wedding"... ! :rolleyes:

I did cut it about a year ago... myself and i was so upset. She has beautiful, curly blonde hair, i think that's why it is tricky to brush!!!

Similar problem here. She is not so bad with washing, but she does prefer to do it herself. Brushing is a nightmare, most days I just give up, but that makes it worse for the next day. We have Gaia baby detangler and spray that through her hair to help with the knots. Sometimes she is happier with us brushing her hair when we spray it. So if you have not tried a spray I suggest giving it a go.

She is so happy though for others to brush it, cut it and plait it. So annoying. I am so tempted to cut it off like Lulu has suggested. I am sick of the fights and the scruffy look she always has due to it.

Try a spray or leave in conditioner in the kids ranges. They smell lovely and you can let her put it in herself.
Do you own morning ritual in front of her, brush your own hair, add the nice smelly stuff etc. She may follow your lead, mine does, to the point of trying to apply her own mascara...
Have you tried sitting her in front of the mirror when you brush? Tried an afro comb? (hey better than nothing).
A GF of mine says her child would have the rattiest hair in town if she didn't have Playschool on telly.
Buy heaps of lovely clips, ties, ribbons and put them in a jar for her to choose from.

I also hide a hairbrush in the couch so if we end up snuggling on the couch, she is likely to zone out and not really notice I'm brushing it.
Get DP to brush yours in front of the telly at night - and look like you are enjoying it! Not hard though tee hee!

lol yeah we use conditioner mixed in water, in a spray bottle.

I will admitt the way i had her stay still for me tonight was i gave her this big packet of hair band's i had just got, and asked her to pick which colour's she would like. She was still, and complained quielty BUT, i got it done! lol

Might try the infront of a mirror with the box of pretty hair dressing's! ;) good tip!

i have the hair washign dilemma as well... DD showers with me, so i end up trying to wash out the conditioner with a face washer because the minute water runs down her face.. she tries to get out - mind you.. if im not fussing over her hair, she will stand under the water without a complaint :rolleyes: i have manage to convince her if you keep you head UP the water will not run into your eyes.. arghhhhh and amazingly, our last 4-5 showers, she has asked for her hair to be washed!!!!!!!!

as for the brushing.. my DD lets me to pigtails, plaits, braids the works! (her hair is halfway down her back)
we did have some issues with head lice, which weren't helped by the fact i wasnt allowed to wash or brush with the lice comb.. but we are finally getting there now!

most of what I was going to say has been suggested but thought I would mention

my sister has the most sensitive scalp I cut her hair for her and OMG she is nearly 33 and the hassle of ouch that hurts :lol: anyway something to bear in mind some people do have really sensitive scalps and even the slightest pull can be excrutiating

my DD will not let me put ehr hair up she likes it out. its all curly.
but washing isnt an issue its not washing it, every bath you have to wash her hair 3 or 4 times lol well she has to lol

but brushing is out of tehg question, dont even try lol
dad said she needs a hair cut or it put up i said ok you try lol he just laughed and said hmmm that sounds familiar apparently i was like that till 3 then everything was so pretty i coudlnt keep things out of my hair
