Hi Ladies,
Just wanting some feedback on how long was your space from your c section and vbac? Mine will be 16 months between births and the RWH Melbourne is not too keen on letting me do VBAC. I am planning to fight them all the way! Would be great to hear all your stories.

zap- Hello there. My twins will be 5 on the 16th June, and this baby is due the 8th June, so almost 5 years between c/s and vbac. The mw told me the other day that they recommend 2 years or more to get pregnant after a c/s.

My c/s was in Sep 2007 and my midwives told me if I wanted to VBAC I should aim to fall pregnant after DS was 12 months old. My GP said that 6 months would be long enough to let the scar heal before falling pregnant.
We got busy with the new baby and weren't TTC, but I fell pregnant again when DS was 17 months, so I am well outside the suggested timeframe.

18 months between births and there was no issue with having a VBAC. Basically anything after 12 months is fine (allows approx 6 weeks healing of scar before the next pregnancy) but you have to fight harder or have a more forward thinking OB.
At 16 months there are a few things you can do to sway them to your way of thinking ;) Agree to telemetry monitoring so you can still move around, epidural inserted but not active unless absolutely necessary ie off to theatre etc. For you, the most important thing is to remain mentally strong and positive - you can do it!!! Remain active and mobile during labour - upright helps with labour progression. Make sure you have the right support people. A doula with VBAC experience would be a valuable investment in making sure you get the birth you are after.
I had both telemetry monitoring and agreed to the epidural at 8cm to shut the registrar up so I could concentrate. It wasn't needed (really!! You think :rolleyes:) and she was born drug free shortly after it was inserted. It is worth the fight - even if you make some concessions to get them off your back so you can concentrate on the job at hand. But remember that you don't need to consent to anything that you are uncomfortable with. Good luck!!
hi there! i had both my kids at Nepean hospital. My kids are 17 months apart, and Nepean initially suggested a VBAC for me, which was nice! no problems at all except my c/s scar was incredibly itchy and painful throughout the pregnancy, especially towards the end, but other than that it was all fine. Hope you get what you want, fight them all the way! unless there was a specific medical problem as to why you had your c/s (mine was just coz my sons heart rate was dropping and i hadn't dilated) then there should be no reason why you can't have one. all the best!
I haven't had a VBAC however I have a midwife friend who had a C/S then 11months later a VBAC. Also the other day we had a lady have a VBAC 16months after her C/S. The hospital she intended on birthing at said no (its small and didn't have the option for emergency C/S as they didn't have a theatre) so she came to our hospital which was 50kms further for her to drive. She had no problems with her VBAC and was pleased to go home 24hrs later.
There was 15 months between my c/sec and VBAC, would have been 14.5 months if DS wasn`t 2 weeks late!!!!
