hand, foot and mouth
Hi ladies
DS has hand foot and mouth (he is about 20 months) and my GP is alittle concerned as he says it can have implications for preg and the baby if i contract it.
He has called my ob to discuss and come up with a plan... but of course now i am stressing...
Anyone got any input into what the issues may be and what i should do (aside from hand washing etc etc). I am thinking DS is prob past the MOST contagious part, which i have already been around for, but i am of course now stressed (and trying not to just google it and stress more LOL!)
Thanks

I can't help much with the pregnancy side of things but all 3 of my sons and DH got this 2 days after my DD was born. We just had to have no contact with them until all the little blisters were gone..
Thankfully no complications occured..
Good Luck

Thanks for the replies.. spoke to GP and OB. Basically OB said it is def not advisable to be exposed to it but at this stage there isnt much i can do.. as if i was going to get it i would have by now... he said most adults will not get it as we will have had enough exposure when we were younger to all strains. He said if i do get it to call him but there wont be a lot that can be done, but on the positive he has never had a patient with any issues relating to this. he also said to stop stresing as this is prob worse!!!! i am just thankful it isnt chickenpox which DH and I were worried about all night (dont google that and preg ladies!!) thanks again for the replies.

Good luck - I had similiar problem with DD at childcare when I was pregnant. She got EVERYTHING (incl chickenpox)! My GP said the same - only really of concern if I got anything. She also said to try and rest/eat well and watch hygiene (all the handwashing/kissing on mouths etc) to avoid as many germs as possible.
Wishing you a speedy recovery for your little one.

Oskar had it when I was pg and doc said he's never seen an adult with it and not to worry. Just be careful with the blisters as it's the liquid in them that's contagious. Once the blisters go it's all good. However, don't stress like your doc said that's going to be worse.

What on Earth is it?
Sorry if I seem a bit silly.

I just wanted to say that my DD had it when she was 2 and I was in very close contact with her for the 5 days, 2 of which she slept basically on top of me and I didnt' get it. I think like your Doc said, not common with adults. Easy to worry though, there is always something isnt' there! Best wishes ox

weird - i was told there were no probs for pg women if exposed to hand/foot/mouth??!! clearly they were wrong! lucky i didn't catch it when i went to visit my friends with their kid who had it!!

well... i did catch it!!! my gp and ob said it is common for adults to get the virus (there are many of them) but that we dont get the rash... (my mum also caught it)... anyway all is ok though, it seems to have passed and baby and i are doing fine...
