Refusing my boobie! at 10 weeks old :(

My 10 week old lil cherub, has been really fussy on the breast for the last 4 days. He takes a few 'sips' and then pulls off, sometimes crying, sometimes not. It's a struggle to get him to have a "proper" feed.
I have been feeding him on demand since he was born and he was doing really well and feeding regularly -3hrly- and has put on lots of weight, & is happy and healthy.

In the past few days though, he will go for maybe 6 hours without a feed during the day if I let him - I am encouraging him to feed after 4 hours, but he just takes two sips and keeps pulling off, and really doesn't want to go back on. It seems like he just doesn't want to be on the boob at all.

Any ideas what might be going on with him?

my 3.5 month old dd has been fussy recently as well. at first i thought it was gas, but i take good care of that with the burping. i have realized this is somewhat common for her age range. for those moments when she just doesn't want to take it, i changed my position for her, using the side-lying on my cushy bed. she seems to settle and take it at those moments.

as far as your little one, maybe this might help? if it continues, of course, you should consult your pediatrician. hope it all works out!

I demand feed my 11wk DD and like you she is a great weight gainer, happy and healthy. But I have noticed she goes through periods where she is fussing at the breast, for no apparent reason.

Keep persisting and as the PP said if things start to worsen check with your GP or pediatrician. Most likely she will sort herself out!

I know just how u feel! My DS was feeding well the at about 7 weeks he would take a few mouthfuls then pull off and cry. It wasn't gas (I would burp and burp and burp him)
My problem was an extreamly fast let down. My milk was comming so fast that he couldn't keep up. So I would lay back once he attached to try and slow the flow. Have a look though. Does he seem to do it as soon as he attaches? Is it after a few minutes? Does milk spurt out your nipple when he pulls off?? If so it could be a fast let down.
Or your letdown may have slowed and he is getting upset because its not quick enough. I googled "fussing while breastfeeding" and work it out that way. anyway 3 weeks on he has got used to my fast let down and he feeds super quick now :dance:
I hope you can work out whats going on. It is so horrible to have a bubba that is crying/fussing when you are trying to feed. Hold in there hopefully it'll pass soon :D

How are you going BLBG? That is a common time for fussiness. We don't really know why, but it might be to do with their increased awareness of what's going on around them. When you can, feed in a quiet, darkened room and see if that helps. Sometimes covering the baby while feeding can help too, but they don't all like that! Another option which works for some mums is feeding in the bath when you are both relaxed.

Could he maybe be getting a cold? He might be finding it tough to breathe through his nose if he's getting a little cold. Or maybe just out of sorts. Hopefully things turn up again for you and he's back on the boob soon.

Have your periods started yet? Sometimes the onset of your first period after the baby is born can make them a bit fussy at the breast.

Often at that age they are really easily distracted, too, and can feed more often at night and much less during the day. Feeding in a quiet, darkened room and swaddling can help keep the distraction down.
