not sure which direction to take next..

we have been slowly trying to TT Krystal for a few months now, we've bought her special Dora knickers, she has a toilet seat for both toilets and also a little potty. each day afte brekkie i ask her if she wants to put her knickers on, she always says 'nah' but i say 'come on, put knickers on like mums!' i always let her pick the pair she wants (and also she picks out a pair for me lol)

she will often tell me she needs to wee, but nothing comes out when she sits on the loo. when she does actually wee, she doesnt tell me first, so i assume she hasnt got that concept just yet...

when she does wee, she freaks out totally and almost cries saying 'mummy take my pants off, clean my legs, put a nappy on..' etc i always ask her if she wants clean knickers on, which she doesnt, so i dont force her. i put a nappy on and we try again the next day..

should i just continue on like this? should i try again in the afternoon to get her to wear he knickers again? i dont want to push her, but at the same time, i dont want to encourage the habit of putting an nappy on after she's done a wee..


im just not sure which is the best way to go! i was hoping for some TT experienced mums advice!

We are yet to tackle TT in our house but just a thought.. have you tried the disposable nappy training pants you can get? They will let her feel shes wet, but maybe not freak her out as much as it wont be running down her legs iykiwm?

My DD1 is fully TT (day) and I think most of the credit should go to the potty trainer (google it!) I had to pay for the booklet but it has totally worked for us. You do intensive potty/toilet training over say, a weekend - and go straight to pants full time. Hard work, but worth it IMO :)

I would keep persisting. Maybe make your delivery of the concept a little different. Instead of asking her just tell her what you are going to do in a really upbeat/excited voice. If she wets and gets distressed, keep reassuring her that it is ok and mummy will clean it up.

Make a big deal out of her when she actually goes to the loo. If she tells you she is about to go then encourage her to get to the loo and when she sits and does a wee then praise her and clap etc.

My eldest daughter got it in like a day.

My second daughter took i would say 9 months to do. And has only just got rid of her night time nappy at xmas.. she was 4y4m!

But I know what the difference was. My first, I had all the time in the world to give her all the attention. I just put knickers on and never reverted to nappies UNLESS sleep time. She weed ALOT, but i just kept cleaning up.. no issue.. Everytime she did a wee in the potty... I did this stupid lil "wees wees in the potty" dance and she thought it was hilarious. Each time she did it, I put a lil stamp on her hand.

With my second, I was working.. busy and just didn't have the time to invest in it. Had I known.. i would have just sucked it up and did the same.. so..

With my third (22 months old), we have been TT for a week now. First three days.. she went through 30 pairs of undies each day. Now... 7 days in.. she only had 3 accidents today and lots of wees on the potty!!!!!!!! I attended a potty training seminar 2 weeks ago... and the key things I took and are using-
1. get rid of the nappies (nap times excluded). don't cave in. as much as it is apain in the bum.. DON"T put the nappy on!
2. don't wait for her to tell u she needs to go, consistently sit her on the potty and see. depending on the child (and you'll soon learn her bladder) it may be every 5 min or every 2 hours. I sing "twinkle twinkle" too. That gives my DD something to sing, keeps her hands occupied with actions (stops her putting hands in there) and also gives her a "time" to sit there.. give her time to do it.
3. make it a HUGE deal when she does.. We all sing and dance and high five her.. I mean, imagine Mum, Dad and 2 older sisters all singin and dancing.. She loves it..
4. don't put the potty in the toilet or bathroom. put it in the open, until she learns the control to hold on.. if it is only a meter from where she is playing, she will get there quicker.
5. as soon as my DD wakes up, her nappy is off and undies on. I don't let her sit in the nappy through breakfast.

For the cleaning up.. I use cloth nappies or towels, then I wipe the area over with the disenfectant wipes u can buy.

U can also buy lil folding pottys to take in your car for trips.
