Cat scratch?
So here I was having a lovely sleep in, when it was interrupted by the sound of DS screaming like he was being murdered.
So I came out to the loungeroom - and it appears our cat has scratched him down his face, and onto his chest.
They are really really nasty looking scratches, red inflamed skin around them already.
Just wondering which is the best way to treat this? I know that when I ever got a bad cat scratch I would put dettol cream on it and then cover it with a bandaid until it stopped stinging. But this is all the way down his face (only just missed his eye thank god) so can't really put a bandaid all the way down it.
Help please!!
ETA- I should probably mention that our cats are inside cats - they never go outside.

Oh the joys of toddlers & cats! I'd just put the detol cream on & let it air. Just put a band aid on if Aricyn wants one (if he's anything like my DS & loves a band aid) rather than to cover the whole scratch.
I think DS is learning not to annoy the cat, 'cause cat definatly doesn't use gentle disipline! Hopefully Aricyn will soon too.
My cats are beating each other up at the moment!

I agree - just pop some cream on it and air it out. If the redness is still there after a day or so then get it checked by a Dr. Happened to DD as well and we just left it to heal naturally - if there are any particularly deep sections just bandaid over them.

Hey Mel. I would wash it and put some betadine on it. Giving it air time is better than covering it up. Keep a close eye on it for infection over the next few days, as well as any unwellness from him like fevers. Are you absolutely sure it missed his eye? If you have any doubt then get him seen by a doctor so they can look for scratches. Otherwise he could end up with an eye ulcer/scarring.
That is about all you can do I think. Hope he gets better soon. :)

Thanks guys. He let me put some dettol cream on it, and its still red, but has lost the inflammation around the edges of it.
It wasn't the cats fault, was an accident, so not deliberate :)
And he didn't get it in his eye - about a cm away from his eye so thats lucky!

I've cut my cat's claws due to this thread! (the cat that DS plays with, the other one ran away from me)

Yeah Skye, he doesn't seem to be suffering for it!!! Still chasing and playing with the cats so I don't think theres any ill feelings harboured towards the cat ;)
