enough sleep?
my 8 week old has only had 3 half hour naps today. she just doesnt sleep. ive had such a hard time settling her. she hardly sleeps at all most days...and its not like she makes up for it at night...the most we ever get is 3 hours of sleep, but generally overnight its 3 hours from beginning of feed to beginning of feed, with up to an hour feeding....i dont know how much longer this can go on for!!!!
So in any 24 hour period, she is probably only asleep for half of it...im sure thats not enough...
any advice is most welcome!!!

tina- have you tried to get your baby to sleep in a sling? it works wonders for my 10 week old ds for day sleeps, and then the better his day sleeps are, the better he sleeps at night iykwim?

thanks rainforest...ive tried a sling a few times...but i dont think im doing it right because her face ends up squashed up against the side and im scared she cant breathe! do you keep your bub in for the whole sleep or do you put him down once hes asleep?

I remember around this age my ds did the same, it is so hard!
if you can try and get her to sleep by any means it could then break the cycle, better day sleeps means better sleep at night, its hard to understand but its true, (even for ds now) you'd think if there that tired they would sleep all night!! but for some reason it dosen't work that way.
maybe try a walk in the pram? are you wrapping her? because that could help, what about a dummy? or even a sleep in bed with you?
it is such a difficult time - you are doing a wonderful job and believe me it does get better!! and soon she'll get more efficent at feeding so feeds will get shorter and you'll have more down time in between feeds.
hope that helps?! all the best!

Try not to get too caught up counting the number of hours of sleep - some babies sleep aaaaaalllll day, and some sleep a lot less. Watch her - is she suffering from lack of sleep, do you think? Or is she ok? Obviously you are having a hard time, though
Like Jamakin says, if she is overtired (and that can stop them from sleeping well), then you need to break the cycle. The first step is to help her sleep whichever way you can. The No-Cry Sleep Solution has lots of great advice which we found really helpful with our DS at about the same age - he was severely overtired at that point, sleeping about 30 mins total during the day and 7-8 hours overnight, which was definitely not enough for him. Using the hug-a-bub really helped us, so maybe give the sling another go. She may not look comfy to you, but if she's sleeping then she must be;)
Good luck
