Wanted - Mothers group!!
Ok, so this may sound a little desperate and sad, but I have a really small group of friends, and lately those who I thought were friends are seeming more and more wrapped up in their own and too busy to care about mine and Jackson's!
I never hit it off with my mothers group, went to a couple and never went back, but especially now I am home full time I am really missing the interaction with others mums and bubs, and am feeling a bit lonely.
I live in Narre Warren, but I don't mind travelling somewhat - not too far obviosly, or maybe even if there are some mums in the same boat as me, we can start a new mothers group, that would be great, then I wouldnt be joining one and feeling like the odd one out because I didnt know anyone.
-
Id love to catch up with you! only thing is, I work mon -fri so its a bit hard :( Im only about 20-25mins away too :(
-
Colleen, I am normally free on w/ends, DH works retail, so I am a retail widow! Don't know what the go with your DH is, obviously I dont want to encroach (sp?!?!) on anyones family time.
-
Min my boys are a bit older than yours, but we could still get together. I'm not very far from you at all.
PM me if you like :p
-
I wish I could join your group but I live in Sydney.
-
Hi min, I live in Berwick, would love to catch up. I have been thinking of joining a play group so why dont we join one together? PM me/send me an email. Cant wait!
-
Jess, I was looking up the local playgroups today, and was hoping to go more the berwick area and get away from Narre a bit, so I will let you know what is in the area, gimmie a day or two, am flat out at the mo planning Jackson's birthday
-
Hi min, I noticed Jackson is almost 1 so when I typed my first post I thought you might be a bit busy! Let me know if you need a hand with anything with the party! I am free at the moment so I will look up playgroups on the net.
Just so you know, I work casually as a swim teacher so I am not available Tue 3 - 6pm, Wed 3 - 6pm, Thur 9 - 12noon and Friday Aidan is at his Nana and Grandad's all day as I work 2 shifts. Oh and Aidan does swimming on Monday's at 10am. So I am busy in little spurts most days but I do have lots of spare time other than then! My DH is a workaholic so he works lots of Saturdays and in the summer he plays cricket so I would be keen to catch up some Saturdays when he isn't working! My friends adore Aidan but they are all still kid-free so I too find it hard socialising. Mothers Group are great but dont 100% 'click'.
Good luck with the party!
-
Jessica, you don't work at Casey Arc do you, that is where Jackson has his swimming lessons, they have a creche next door, that is why I thought you might mean there. THanks for the offer re help, I think I pretty much have everything sorted, just fiddly stuff now
Thank you so much for all your offers girls, you have really lifted my spirits these last couple of days.
I am definately going to take you up on your offer, Hopefully will sort something out next week, after Jacko's party is all over and done with, can't think straight at the moment.
Thank you all again, you all deserve :flower:
-
I'm in Cranbourne Min :D Jonah has his swimming lessons at the Casey Arc too, on Sunday mornings.
-
Bec, Jackson has his on Wednesday mornings, does Jonah love it? Jackson has a ball!!
-
Jonah adores it, he has such a great time, I glad we decided to do it, so worth it, he's been going since he was 6 months.
-
min, I work at one in Narre Warren. I'll tell you when we meet up!
Had a quick look on the net for playgroups and there seems to be plenty around the area. I live close to 'Brentwood Park Comm Centre' so if you are interested in travelling to Berwick that would suit me. The whole thing confuses me a bit though as I am not sure if we are meant to join a group or create our own and I dont want to create too much work for ourselves when we are already busy!
-
Min - I'm a bit too far away too! My MG didn't work out either... such a pity!
I take Gab to playgroup on Fridays (I take Paige too... she's the daughter of one of the girls from my MG.. I look after her 4 days a week) and it's really good. I get along well with the other parents and the girls are getting use to it. They love playing with all the different toys and watching the bigger kids doing their thing.
Next week the playgroup is splitting into 2 and going to someone's house for a cuppa just to get to know eachother a little better. Should be interesting!
Our membership fees aren't too bad. It's only $20 a term... which I think is pretty good. I am sure if you shop around, you could find something that suits you.
Our playgroup is church-based. While I'm not a religious person, I don't really mind singing songs and listening to Christian stories... I don't see the harm. Others felt a bit funny about it and decided to not continue but, each to their own. You've gotta feel comfy, right?
-
Flethch, that made total sense, thanks for the tips. Will be looking into things on Monday. Will let you all know how things go
-
Hey Min!
I live in Narre Warren and would love to get together with some other mums in the area. I too only have a very small circle of friends and would love to begin some new friendships.
If you want some help working out details PM me and we can catch up.

Play Groups
Hi I;m in a playgroup at Rowville (we use to live there) but we moved about 35 mins away but we still drive there every week because Mackenzie just loves it and I enjoy the conversation with the other mums. The place where we go (Taylors Lane) have sessions each day and I think from memory they have 3 sessions still available for this term. The set up is great - fantastic toys for all ages and a great undercover (sun protection) outdoor area, Tea, coffee, milk all inclusive. It is $25 per term and there is also a membership fee which you will need to pay to the playgroup assoc which you will find if you go to any of the 'officially' run play group centres. It is about 20-25 mins from Berwick (I use to work in Berwick) and a great run along the freeway! If you don't have any luck in your area let me know and I will talk to the others in our group about you joining us if you like! We don't bite but our kids are all a little older - they are all just turning 2 but we do have 3 new babies all born last month!
-
Hi min,
Sorry I haven't been much help. I hope Jackson had a great birthday!
Keep me posted, really looking forward to meeting a few other BB's now. And let me know if you want me to make any phone calls. From Fletch's post I guess we just ring the centres and ask?
-
hey gals, I started rining some playgroups on Monday (havent last two days because DH's days off) and so far they are all full. Will try a few more tomorrow and see how my luck goes then, don't worry I havent forgotten about you Jessica & Lara, Would love for us to join a playgroup together, just finding one first.
Nikbrad, thank you so much for the offer, sounds great, would love to join if I can't find something in my area. Will let you know mate.
-
If playgroup doesn't work out, nothing saying we can't meet up for regular coffee and chats. :)
-
There are also playcentres too that don't cost that much to get in to.
-
Moving to Playgroup / Mothers Group Chat Forum.
-
I just found this thread, I would love to join in too if thats alright?? I never went to a playgroup with Nicholas (well I did go to one at the health centre but no one turned up, but thats another story...) It would be great to catch up.
-
Kazz definitely join in. We don't have details as yet. Maybe we could all meet up for coffee first of and then we could discuss details then? What does eveyone else think?
-
You don't have to clean up play centres either ;) though it can get costly for those with bigger kids (it's just me with the bigger kids though isn't it!) There is one at Fountain Gate near The Warehouse. I've only just discovered it so I don't know what it's like. One to sus out too in the near future.
-
Lollipops, I haven't been there but I went to one up in Sydney and it was good. And yeah we won't have to clean up after, I like that idea. Kazz has Nicholas Sammi so you're not the only one with older kiddies.

Lollipops would be alright. Just concerned about the cost, especially those with older kids or more than one. Who thought this would be so hard!LOL!
-
Well, I rang Narre Community Centre and they have a spot free on Mondays between 9:30-11am. It cost $3.00 per session and a one of annual fee of $12.00. There are other mothers there aswell. She said there could be anywhere between 10-20 mums. So don't know if that is what others were after. Also if you are unable to make it it doesn't matter as you only have to pay weekly, instead of upfront like some playgroups.
-
Yep lollypops would be pricy for me!
Cranbourne maccas has an INDOOR playground we could all go there and take over the place for the morning. Just to get started...
Lara where is that community centre? Are they fussy with their age groups I wonder? My two are great around little ones so I'm not worried about them hurting other kids but if there are others mums in the playgroup who aren't part of our group would they get shirty about it IYKWIM?
-
Maccas sounds like a good idea. I am easy though whatever suits anyone else is fine with me.
-
Maccas sounds good to me also. They have McCafe, so at least there will be good coffee.
Sammi she didn't mention about age groups, but I also didn't say anything about the age differences in our kids. The only thing I was concerned about was joining in on an already established play group and there possibly being a few of us.
What day suits everyone? My only bad days are Tuesdays (gymbaroo) and Fridays(swimming). And are mornings better for everyone? :)
-
Any days suit me and morning would be better for me too as Rob works arvos and needs the car.
-
Kate, I can't speak for the other girls but I don't mind if you invited your friend to join in.
-
I'm fine most day mornings too. And Kate I don't mind if your friend comes along either :)
-
I have only just discovered this ( thanks Kate) and I would be interested too, my prob is I work too, so if I am free I would love to join in and bring my ratbags, LOL.
-
Kate I don't mind if your friend joins also. :)
So what about Monday or Thursday mornings?
-
i'm up for a group, i'm new to melbourne and dont know anyone... i live in tullamarine. I dont know any of the suburbs!!!! its been really hard, but DH is encourgaing me to get out and meet people...
-
Simone you certainly welcome to join us! Tullamarine is a about an hour (I guess) away from all of us. So don't know if thats to far for you to travel.
Frank encourages me also to meet new people as I don't have alot of close friends and I have lived in Melbourne all my life! LOL! So I can imagine how hard this must be for you.
If its to far Pm me and we can chat if you want.
-
Hi everyone,
I just rediscovered this forum. I think Maccas is a great idea. My mothers group goes to one every Tuesday morning and the kids love it even though they are still a bit too little. Berwick/Cranny/Fountain Gate all suit me just fine.
As far as days, mornings are best, particularly Wednesdays. If we were to meet on Monday or Thursday I could do lunch/afternoon.
-
Fletch, I wish you didn't live so far away, so then you could join us. Thats it I think you should sell up and move down to Melbourne. ;) he! he!
Monday or Thursday morning are good for me.
Simone, I grew up in Pascoe Vale South so not far from you at all. My mum and grandparents still live there and we are forever calling down there on the weekends, so if you ever want to catch up just let me know.
Iris, like you I don't have many close friends either, esp with kids and Rob encourages me to meet new people aswell.
