Hi
I just have a quick question about a scan at 6w1d which showed heart beat stopping and starting. Everything else seemed to be ok except for dates being a few days out but that could be from irregular cycles??
Has anyone had this happen before and everything turn out ok or not???

Could it be that your dates are a bit out and the heart beat is just actually getting going - hence the stopping and starting?
Have you been recommended to go back for another scan in a few days?

I was thinking along the same lines as Sue, at that many weeks the heart is just starting up so I'm sure that could be a possible explanation.

I would be thinking that the HB would be just starting up at that gestation, it will take a while to get going more regularly and then it will increase in rate, I had a scan Tuesday and HB was 125 BMP, Thursdays camen in at 134BPM, so increasing in strength and the sonographer said that it would have started lower the week before. :hug:

Thanks for the replies girls. I'm really hoping this would be the case and hope the rate increases over time. I have another scan booked for Tuesday week so hoping like crazy everything is just wonderful then. Its such a scary time at the moment.

I didn't even have a heart beat with either bubs until 7.5 weeks - I'd just say that the heart has just started beating in your case - fingers crossed it all works out fantastic :pray:
I would think it was just early and starting. DS1 had a slow heartbeat on scan at 7 weeks 6 days. He is now 20 months old!!

I was going to suggest it could be the h/b *just* starting as well... if everything else looked good I would try not to worry (I know, easier said!!). I hope your next u/s gives you a lot more reassurance!

Ok I just want to say thatnks to you all for your messages after I originally posted but now my next scan is tomorrow I'm starting to become very worried and nervous again :(
So can I please ask you all to keep us in your thoughts that everything is all ok tomorrow.
I have all the preg feelings ie sore bb's, feeling ill in the afternoon and that awful tooth brushing gag that always happens to me when preg lol. While some of these symptoms sound great they can also be some side affects to some medication I'm on so needles to say I'm feeling a bit fragile atm.

Thanks everyone your support means so much to me as not too many people IRL know what's going on. My appointment isn't until 5pm so its going to be a long day I think. I'm going to try and keep as busy as possible without over doing it.

Just so you can hear another positive story - I had an early scan with my DS at 6w3d and they told me his heart rate was a bit slow. The doctor was actually quite insensitive and told me it meant that I had an increased chance of miscarriage, there was nothing they could do but wait and see, have a nice day. I got in the car and cried.
At 8 weeks my ob gave me a scan in his office and DS' heartbeat was perfect. My ob said that the slower heart rate at the first scan was most likely due to either his heart only just starting to beat that very day (like in the few hours prior to the scan) or it was merely just an aberration on that particular day.
My DS is a very healthy, hale and hearty 3.5yo now.
ETA: Actually, now that I think about it, I *thought* I was 6w3d when I went for this scan but they actually revised my dates back to 6w1d.
Thanks everyone. The day is going ever so slowly but I had a call from the Ob who is doing the scan and they have moved my appointment forward to 4:30 so only 2 hours to go now.
Curly thanks for sharing your story. Its so similar to mine the other day where the Dr went through the plan of attack if things weren't working out and I walked out after my appt and cried my eyes out. I just didn't want to hear what he was saying.
I'm so happy your DS is here with you today and am hoping like crazy this bub is going to come home with us too.

Thanks for your support girls but I'm so sad to say that our bub doesn't have a heart beat. I'm totally shattered right now as is DH :crying:
